Hiya, I just installed Red Alert 2 on my computer(client) and on the server computer. (Both using different game discs).
I want to play a network game against a friend.

So I start RA2 on both pc's , I click on Network wich enters me in the lobby, I start a game on the server PC. But the game won't show up on the client PC, I also tried vice versa, and still no result.
After some searching, I found out I have to install the IPX service at the network config screen. So I did on both pc's.
On another site, it said to use the Ethernet 183,3 or something, wich I also did on both pc's.

So i'm pretty much clueless now, I want to play on a network, and it doesn't work :( :( Any help appreciated, thanks.
 
Yeah I had exactly the same with that cyber-m ,. It's really a weird problem, I fixed it by starting in safe mode, rebooting again and it worked, really weird :P

nope firewall isnt an issue,
what do you mean with: "Right settings like advertise"?
 
well you can't connect by inserting the ip ? is there an option to make it public ( don''t know the right word :P )

in red alert i couldn't find such an option,
 
after installing ipx in xp have you selected the right mac address in ra2 network setup, for me it gives me 3 options and middle option is right for me.

yeah its those with the weird numbers?
i did ipconfig /all and checked the physical address (<in dos prompt)and selected the right thing at the network options (<in red alert):confused:
edit: should i pick the same mac address for both computers (if thats possible) or the ones that show up on ipconfig /all
edit2: i can't try it out all now because i'm not at home atm :)
 
well i would like to know the anwser of you problem to now, if i ever cross the same problem :P
not being able to play RA2 in lan = shit :(
 
its a common problem, my friends always have to fix it at lans, I never pay attention but I have a patch on my hd which maybe related, and yeah need to sort ipx on all machines etc.

Okay mush sent me a patch, I will try it out on both pc's in around 1hr.. if it works ill upload it for those interested:)
 
okay i had this prob to and it did cost me days to find out.

first go start-run and then cmd and then ipconfig/all
remember your fysical adress as this has to be set in RA2 netwerk options

secondly right click at netwerk then at you're lan adress and go to NWLINK IPX/SPX/Netbios .....(the longest there :P)
"eigenschappen" (don't know the english word atm) and select Ethernet 802.3 at both comps at frametype.
i have network number at 00000000 and number of intern network at 00000002 but i don't know if this has antying to do with it.
In red alert only fill in "Network Card" and that's it.

I already tried that pykenike as you can see above:)
But i'm setting my intern network number to 00000002 now, as it's 00000000 atm..

Ps. I installed Mush his patch and it's still not working.

Setting intern netwerk number to 0000002 also did not work.. :(
So a list of what i have tried so far:

1) Installed IPX service on both pc's
2) Changed it to Ethernet 802.3 on both pc's
3) Installed Mush his "RA21006EN.EXE" patch
4) Setting the physical MAC address in RA2 (Looked it up in Ipconfig /all)


this is driving me crazy and im going to throw out the whole network out of the window soon.

Ik ga je ff uitleggen hoe je alles moet instellen, ik doe het wel in het NL aangezien ik dyslextisch ben en dus niet zo goed in Engels ben.

Wat je moet doen is het volgende, installeer het ipx/spx protocol op beide pc's. Dit is het protocol waarmee RA 2 werkt. Dit heb je al gedaan als ik het goed lees. Configureer voor dit protocol de bij eigenschappen:

nummer van netwerk: eerste pc 00000001, 2de pc 00000002 enz..
frame type: 802.3 op beide pc's
netwerknummer 00000000

Bevestig deze opties.


Ga terug naar eigenschappen voor lan verbinding, ga naar tabblad verificatie. Schakel hier IEEE 802.1Xverificatie voor dit netwerk uit. Bevestig dit ook.

Zorg ervoor de je overige protecollen in Windows ook geinstalleerd hebt (Netlink Netbios) en bestand en printerdeling ... (Ik weet niet 100% zeker of dit noodzakelijk is voor het RA2 netwerk, maar naar mijn gevoel zorgt het ervoor dat je elkaar beter ziet.)

Ga nu naar dos ipconfig/all en kijk voor beide pc's wat de MAC adressen zijn (Fysiek adres). Schrijf dit op en ga naar RA2. Ga naar de netwerk instellingen van RA2

Hier zorg je ervoor dat bij beide pc's het mac adres goed is ingevuld (Mac adres is het exacte adres van de netwerkkaart in een pc, dit moet dus goed zijn... geen fictieve waardes invullen of wat dan ook)

Bij socket nummer op beide pc's hetzelfde nummer invullen. Ik heb hier 11 staan.


Voor de rest zijn dat mijn instellingen, en dit werkt gewoon altijd, geen gezeik meer. Ik weet niet wat die patch doet, ik ken hem ook niet, daarom mijn advies, deinstalleren die hap.


Als iemand zich geroepen voelt om dit te vertalen in het engels, kunnen nog meer mensen van de oplossing genieten.

Bedankt maar het werkt nog steeds niet.

Ik zal even uitleggen hoe de netwerk situatie is.
Pc1: heeft 2 netwerkkaarten,
In netwerkkaart 1 komt het internet binnen
Netwerkkaart 2 verbindt Pc1 met Pc2.
