Hey - turns out IRC is out and something a little more modern has taken it's place... A little thing called Discord!

The worst thing is that 2k3 actually replaced our beloved sniper rifle with a semi-autoaiming, semi impossible to hit with "Lightning Gun".
Well... they still had sniper rifle in 2k4... it's just that it was so shit you couldn't hit a thing with it and had to take 5 seconds to releoad every shot... and left a huge trail and smoke in your face which made it impossible to actually snipe. The minigun was even shit.
UT3 looks..... SHIT I certainly will not be buying it. Nor upgrading my PC for what looks to be another cliché FPS. Gameplay is everything especially in a team based game. UT3 will not deliver and they have wasted their time.
"Free" game, low requirements on hardware, and old familiar names/m8s and maybe decadence....comes to my mind.
Its true that new UT games lack the game dynamics that ut99 have but i dont think that mainly it, most people have left the community and moved on...you should know that better then most....people paying you to be their admin by donations without you offering to get of your seat by a poll or anything alike
I agree about the free game. Being able to copy it around, play at LANs and introduce anyone to it without having to buy the game are all long gone.
I'd like to think I've moved on from UT99 as well, since I haven't actually played a clan match since about 2002 or something.

main problem, as others said earlier.. is that with all this detail and eye candy - you cant see the bloody players against the background.. so stupid - I still think Quake3/UT99 are the best DM shooters out there.. all those after them jus aint quite as good for 1v1.. cept maybe Q4.. which is basically the same as Q3 DM wise

what I want is somone and i really dont care who to create a game that makes me want to keep playing it, that makes me want to stay up till 5am playing with mates and teams who also want to stay up coz its such a great thing to play, that makes me want to improve my skill, that makes me want to learn secret little parts to the game play that are not documented, that makes me want to create/join a community to support it.
its a tall order i know but its been done before so why not again.
if ut3 is some of those things above then its a good thing, if they get it right on the money and its all those things then thats a great thing.

I agree Rich. UT brought people together, and not just in a metaphorical way. We're a community based on gameway over the latest graphics engines, and because those people are still here it means we are either cheap skates or more interested in the social aspects.

Correct. No democracy here. utassault.net is a website dedicated to 1 part of a game released in 1999. We're not a country, soverign nation, or goverment entity.
There is no freedom of speech, there is no democracy, there are unwritten rules and regulations which have been in effect for many years and adjusted to suit our needs and applied to people we want to silence, and tools/scripts to do that job.
This isn't your playground, or somewhere you think you have a right to be. You have as many rights here as you do on the CNN website or at digg.com. You have no rights, and I/we have no obligations to you at all. Ever.

Exactly if ut3 has that effect or crysis etc etc or a new type of fps after all Assault was a new type of fps when it came out ,then i am all for it I thought .
ut2k4 had some good ideas but the game play on conquest??? just wasn't good enough to keep my interest and assault in ut2k4 was rubbish as it had been sterilized.
I want something new and inventive with development levels and a learning curve that not really steep but a nice long sweep ...does that make sense ?? see doh I do need a "daft" option...
