New IP for Server #6

  • Hey - turns out IRC is out and something a little more modern has taken it's place... A little thing called Discord!

Join our community @ https://discord.gg/JuaSzXBZrk for a pick-up game, or just to rekindle with fellow community members.

Once the contact details are in my hands i'll ask for a server if it hasn't been offered and then sort out the specifics with the company. Followed by the installation & configuration of the server and it's integration into the booking system as well as seting up irc reporting and organising server testing.

You should know as much as anyone else who's been around for longer than a year that most companys don't give stuff away. The only servers we've ever turned down were Jolt because they wanted the league to themselves.

It was thanks to Phear who orignally contacted gamesworld that we got #1. And then to mym that we were able to stay hosted with them and run two servers, which should be coming back soon.
To Shai that we had his server for so long.
To Russell @ orange for giving out free servers long ago.
To UAS for putting us in touch with gameservers.net and to the clans that have rented their servers from them since allowing them to give use 2 further servers.
To ATB/iD who got us in touch with vitalgaming.co.uk and thus #6.

It's a community effort, if you keep your leads to yourself don't expect me to follow them up. If you name a few scandinavian gaming isps who might be intrested and i'll contact them and ask...... Although unless they are new they probabaly would have suggested/contacted already sometime in the past 3 years and obviously declined.

just a update to server 6

Further to your conversations with XxXX last week I am
writing to update on the status of the Gaming Server Lusus.
At present we are looking to swap out the switch to replace
and test the results, as we are confident the fault lies here.

The estimated time to resolve this is 7-10 days. Obviously I
am very aware that this service has been practically unusable
over the last week, and flaky for longer. If we can get it swapped
out sooner we will do, and advise accordingly.

I am hoping to update all parties later this afternoon on a more
concrete timescale, as soon as I know more, I will pass all the details
on.

I hope that this update is satisfactory for the time being. Please
be assured that this currently has my full attention.

email was to me btw:)

trying to get free servers is really hard i was trying to get my bros company to give the league one for a year but in the end they just wouldnt do it without some form of payment, those companys that have given us free servers or bandwidth, electricity useage, etc i have the upmost respect for and i know "we" all sit in our computer chairs shouting "fs this is laggy, this server is shit to much packet loss!" but at the end of the day were getting private use of somthing that for us to own personally is beyond most of our means , so we should put up and shut up really :) (im as bad as everyone else)
there has to be somone from the scandinavian comunity that knows somone or can contact isp's local companys etc to find out if they would even entertain the idea of a UTA server ? but from my own trails and tribulations its a rare occurance to be granted the use of one ;/

Trace complete.

b4 the move i had around 60 on good days and 200+ on bad days so i dunno if its good or bad.... but if its stable thats a big improvement and the most important :D. :)

And u ppl bitching with -50 ping :shout: :llama:

sorry bout time its taking to fix,but i have found out that its the switch and the fibre(some1 proberly fell over it and destroyed 3000£ worth of cable) connecting server to linx but it will still be fixed by friday at MAX

tonight we played a match on it
uaf vs ase

pings were up and down and the average pl about 15-20
some pingspikes too

lucky it was for both clans equally laggy

FDC vs FBC2 was unplayable, everyone over 20% PL and three players of FBC2 had 3000ping !?

g/l fixing it, let us know :done: :D

we were prepared for it, and new it was gonna be spikey and so on (thanks to Misty ...)
And once again, HUGE thanks to UAS for letting us use their server with no notice ... and thanks to them and SUYM for delaying their match by over 30 minutes to let us play.
:cuddle:

update packet loss has gone and vital have replaced a faulty switch plus other things it might be a bit spikey at mo but should stop bout 20.00 tonight this is due to the new switch going through discovery building routing tables etc so have fun guys and soz for the trouble and inconveniece it has caused:D

Had a match on your server last night at 22:00. AFter when you said it should be fixed.

Man, ive never seen that much lag. It would be fine for 20-30 seconds, nice low 20-30ms pings across the board then BAM, 300 ping with 50-90% packetloss.

Got another match on there tonight, and i just hope its better than it was lastnight, cause that was awful :(.

Also, you have them server only installs! Can you say sliding players!?

Wont be using this server again for a while, thats for sure :(

NOTE: Did PP on the server, look at the spiking :(

i will take it down till i know its 100% then......i can only go by what i was told..ill put server back up when its fixed

sorry im trying my best and seeing i dont even get paid or anything for this...and i cant do didly when something near or at the server goes wrong..i know there is spikes and i was told it was the cisco switch(new one) doing discovery but obviously its not i will know more on monday anyway ill take the server down for the time being and put it up when its fully working as i know its a bitch playing on a server wivh is b0rked

You dont have to take the server down, people will still play on it even if its broke (i personly wont but others will :P)

I was just showing that it wasnt fixed, wasnt trying to imply that your doing a bad job. Sorry :(

Its also possible that this 'IP change' caused the spike. Before the IP change the server was great, i could get sub 20ms on it easy and the server was great, but ever since that IP change its really go down hill, and as seen as you just replaced a whole lot of stuff and it still isnt fixed, then it might be the routing change you did.

Ill ping some of the rouing, but it was looking abit flaky in the PP i did (See hop 6, that has the highest avgerage ping of all)

Also, could you please please install the servers form the game CDs and not form the server only install on the web? That server only install screws up people who use the hi res textures, where an install form the game CDs doesnt (no idea why epic never did sort that out :( )

reason we changed ip was cause of this problem thinking it was a faulty router on the way but obviously it wasent so its not the routing causing spike my bet is still the fibre liink the server to the gateway ill find out sooner or later

:ps i have now fixed the texture things and once servers done ill put it back up

Ok, was doing some checking on the routing this time, looks very iffy to me.

This itme i have graphs up on the last 3 hops (6, 7 and 8)

As you can see, hop 6 has some huge spikes on it (over 500ms in one place)

You'll also noitce that alot of the spikes on hop 6, are reflected by spikes on your server (hop 8). Alot of the spikes are also causing packetloss (red bars on hop 8).

That hop 6 looks very funny if you ask me.

Look at 4:07pm, 4:09pm, 4:11pm and just after 4:12pm. On the top graph (hop 6) there are spikes. At the same time on the bottom graph (hop 8 - your server) theres also spikes. Looks like the routing :(
