well done pitbull, this was actually good for uta and really bought back some interest and competitive playing.

- 5-15 specs each match just shows that it was a great and interesting competition
- I think that it was very interesting for spectators as well to learn the format, lots of oooooohh's and aaaaaahhh's and many LOL moments.
- We had lots of people with their own ideas for how individual 'xxx' should have defended or what individual 'xxx' should have done. I just wish more would have signed, its good format and will help you as a player as well.
- hopefully we can do another bigger and more awesome one! I even think you can have 3 tournaments top, middle and bottom (that's 24 players), people just need to play each other of equal skill quality so that there are no one sided matches. just good and fun nervous-tension for all !!

To summarise: not only a great event for the players, but also for the spectators -gg

edit: hope people are not too scared or worried about signing for the next one. The worst that can happen is that you lose and get internet bullied - WOW? Trust me i was really looking forward to my matches, it kind of reminded me when we were playing top teams like UAS, mi5, etc, always looked forward to them, just like i did with this,

indeed, specs and players themselves definitely learned how to defend certain objectives, where to defend them, what weapons to use and also gained general knowledge on how 1v1 AS is. I look forward to playing myself in the future and I already thought of doing something similar to what xb said depending on how many players sign, but after this I am sure we will get at least 16 for 2 balanced groups (wish will most likely sit next one out so I encourage people who used this as an excuse to sign the next one)

bottom line is 1v1 AS is the most adrenaline rush u will ever get from playing UT (imo), every decision u make, timing etc.... it's all on u
what mostly intrigued me were the 'mind games' people did, it's quite interesting to see how different players approach it
also it's easy to say x shoulda done this or that when speccing, playing the game is a whole different story and even if u do plan ahead nothing is 100% and even tho some matchups were considered straight forward, some maps were very very close the underdogs performed well and u could see pressure getting to even the best players (as xb said many wow, omfg, ffs moments happend and we all had fun speccing as well)

Twnz vs Riv - Match Report

-=-=-=-=-=-=-

With all due respect to the tournament's other players, neither Twnz nor Riv had reached this semi by doing anything other than handing out drubbings to everyone they met. Except maybe Riv, who had previously lost 0-4 to none other than Twnz. So I'm already wrong, gg. The point is that both players were on top form, very strong, tough to beat, and their previous match had given Riv its chances, too. Surely this result would not be another 4-0 for Twnz...

Well, it wasn't, but the final score was little better from Riv's point of view. A good start didn't last and he lost momentum, made dumb defence decisions and got frustrated by Twnz's reliance on his sniper skills :sniper: That being said, Riv's own sniper and certainly his minigun and pistols were working well all evening, and he did plenty of good work on attack. But after losing the incentive in Ballistic he was forced to defend first in each subsequent map, and Twnz's movement on attack and aim on defence were too high a climb for Riv to overcome.

The result was 4-1 to Twnz and a bit of a :flame: war, which was a shame as the tourny had been friendly up until then :cuddle: But the specs enjoyed themselves and so did the players, up to a point, and we got lots of good play to appreciate and look back on. The best and worst happened as follows.

>>> MATCH DEMOS <<<

MAP 1 - LAVAFORT][ (Riv pick)

ROUND 1

Riv ejaculated from the spawn cave, grabbed the armour and three vials and sent some rox Twnz's way, the red player waiting by the bridge with his sniper rifle, armour and keg. Riv managed to minigun Twnz's armour away on the first run before falling, but Twnz held position for Riv's next attack. Twnz thought about hammering to the pads but Riv got there before him and dropped with minigun motoring :mingun: Twnz was down and Riv was free to choose Fuses or Fort.

Twnz picked the wrong tele and suicided, realising his error, then suicided again, finally opting to defend all the way back. While Twnz had been spending time on two suicides Riv had hammered up with sniper and ripper. He set his ripper aim while crouched, high by the barrels, then crawled left and dropped to the pillar spot, unseen by Twnz, who was watching everywhere at once, including the lava. The rippers duly started flying and Twnz had had no time to pick up the sniper he needed. All he could do with no armour or keg was try to block the blades, but he quickly died and the Final popped on 1:14, just about the best start Riv could have hoped for :D

ROUND 2

All Riv really needed here was some thorough :spam: and he got ready with keg, belt and copious amounts of shock ammo. Twnz tried to draw him into the cave but Riv's first combo sent Twnz lavawards and his second finished him off, along with the armour and the pads. Twnz's third run was with 30 seconds to go, and again Riv sent him into the lava, kissing farewell to the second armour. One more chance for Twnz? Not really, he stopped playing and the map was Wib's  Mappen choicen ist gut!

MAP 2 - BALLISTIC (Twnz pick)

ROUND 1

Riv's minigun had been serving him well throughout the tourny, but his sniper was not far behind. It was this that got him first blood, and Twnz held him off only for a minute or so before Riv went uphill and shot Twnz with two sniper shots, dropping to the Main Gate on his next run by 8:49, just in time to grab Twnz's armour :shout: Twnz needed a couple more tries to kill him off, but not before he took the teleporter down. Each player's sniper was as effective as the other's, and Riv needed not much more time to make his first promising run at the Genny. Offing Twnz with some fine mini / crouchage action, he grabbed armour and vials and let Twnz come looking for him at the Gate. Twnz couldn't afford to go searching for the weapons he had failed to pick up and, armed only with a pistol, he was forced to push out. Riv seized the moment and sprinted around Twnz in a big circle, arriving in the Gen room as Twnz ran out of pistol ammo. All Twnz could do was dodge onto the minigun ammo packs hopefully, but Riv meanwhile took out the Genny on 7:00.

A few pushes low with armour brought Riv little luck against Twnz's superior minigunning, in spite of almost making it through the low tunnel with 1 armour and 2hp, although he was of course caught at the top of the ramp by more mini shots :crap: His next run gave better results, hammering into the nest as Twnz committed himself forward low. Twnz reacted to get back to the lift, but Riv's mini dropped him at a bad area for respawning. Riv ran low, Twnz ran high, but Riv's rockets bounced Twnz everywhere and he had time to dodge to the Warhead on 4:51.

If Twnz was up for a prolonged Final defence, Riv wasn't, and his first attack sent a flying flakball to Twnz's faceage. He pulled back again to get the nest button (for easier pads!) and then ran high to the Ops Room door. He dropped down the lift and hit the button, then climbed the lift again, not bothering going inside. He instead waited until Twnz had sent a hopeful combo towards the ramp he was hiding beside, then ran up the ramp and hid just to the left of the door, where Twnz couldn't see him. Twnz was spamming first the main entrance and then the Ops Room, so all Riv had to do was wait for the main entrance combo to miss him and then duck inside as Twnz looked right. This worked lubly and Riv took the button with 4:10 remaining, his psych tactic having worked flawlessly. And we all applauded on spec :P We love a good psych :freak:

ROUND 2

Twnz immediately went high to try to pick Riv off in like fashion, but this attack and his next few met with little success, Riv reaching first a spree and then a rampage (the tourny's first?), controlling the armour. Twnz was having trouble hitting his constantly crouching and crawling opponent, and it seemed Riv had his play style down cold. He was also making it difficult on Twnz by hiding to avoid being sniped, meaning Twnz often had to go looking for him and found himself with half his hp missing before he could turn an spot where Riv's shots were coming from. However, a miss vs Twnz could always be costly and so it finally proved on exactly 3:00, when Twnz charged and headshotted, taking the first objective.

Still, three minutes was a very defendable time, am I right? No, I am not. Twnz failed to drop Riv coming out of the Gate door, but the airstrike he had called in hit poor Wib full in the ear, clearing the way for Twnz to dodge to the vials and run at the Genny. Riv could only scramble out of the spawn with a pistol, managing to take rampant Twnz to 25hp (one more shot, grr!) before the Genny fell on 2:42. Twnz suicided and landed on the armour, heading low and inside. Riv spotted him hiding behind the box and attacked with minigun, but he again let Twnz run towards the low tunnel while the battle took place, and he could not afford to lose this fight as a result. He naturally lost to some sniper body shots and Twnz's BT skill sent him flying through the low tunnel and up to the Warhead on 2:14, less than thirty seconds after the Genny, Riv's desperate flakkage getting him nowhere. Twnz had more or less run from the Lasers spawn to the Warhead, getting three objectives en route

What had been a tremendous start defence was turning into a complete reverse, and both players knew it. Twnz now had the advantage but he had had run-ins with Riv's defence here before and he needed a strategy. He went high after two failed low attempts, effectively nullifying Riv's minigun :tent: With pads and rockets he pushed low right, although Riv's shock was there to meet him. But he had gotten much farther than he ever would pushing low, so again he went up the lift with pads and headed in. The Ops Room got opened and Riv committed himself to the right ramp, giving Twnz time to jump into the room. Riv pulled back but madly ran into the Ops Room with a minigun, rather than camping the button. BT was again Twnz's friend as he just gave Riv the runaround and hit the button on 4:48. A moment of bad positioning and bad weapon choice, as well as a certain airstrike let Riv down this time. Having spent nearly half of the second round defending the Gate well, Riv could have taken a 2-0 lead and gone on to choose the third map, but as it was he had thrown this chance away :\

MAP 3 - SUBMARINEBASE][ (Riv pick)

NB: Because Twnz started wrongly on defence in this map they had to switch teams, so in the demos Twnz is now on blue and Riv red. However, I will just keep Twnz as red and Riv blue, otherwise the scores get messed up.

ROUND 1

Twnz skipped the high pads but approached along the high tunnel anyway, sneaking under the bridge towards the Vent. Riv was camping by the barrel above his head and simply dropped to send another offering up to Lord McPott :arsemiss: But Riv, predictably, took up the same position again and this time Twnz guessed it. He jinked through the high window, shooting at Riv before Riv could react. Riv dodged away to give him space to combo and Twnz chose his moment to drop low and run to the Vent. Riv tried to chase and clipped Twnz around corners with two combos, but neither finished him, Twnz having earlier collected the pads. He took the Gate on 8:55 and it was only Riv's awareness that let him spot Twnz under the big bridge, trying and failing to combo the Vent from underneath.

Twnz respawned and charged while Riv took four epochs to decide to take the belt. Of course Twnz arrived at Riv's least ideal moment and he was through to the Vent on 8:25, Riv forced to change his plans and skip the belt. He got Twnz again but now couldn't afford to move, not with the Docks gaping. The belt was now Twnz's property and Riv needed plenty of comboing and some finishing touch plasma to rid him of it. He then camped beside where the Vent panel used to be and met Twnz on the stairs. Twnz had his sniper in tow, however, and Riv took a horrible headshot. He reappeared way at the back of the submarine and had to suicide to get the correct spawn by the plasma. This still wasn't enough to save him and Twnz barged through, taking the Sub on 7:32. The map time was 2:49, after only a token plasma defence inside the boat.

ROUND 2

Riv wasted a few seconds getting Attackers via the high route, but he took the pads and went low via the water. Twnz was camping back at the Vent panel to prevent Riv passing him, but Riv comboed the panel low on 1:56 and Twnz was unable to do much about it from that position. His belt and half his keg was gone, and Riv had meanwhile turned around and headed down the winding tunnel to the bio gun. Twnz rendezvoused with him there and sent him packing. The belt was arriving again soon and both players knew it, Riv coming off best. Upon coming back up the stairs he was unlucky enough to meet one of Twnz's rockets with his feet, which sent him high into the ceiling and away from the route through to the Gate. More Twnz rockets finished him off and wasted his belt.

Riv tried the bio tunnel again but luck was with Twnz as he dropped just as Riv emerged, killing them both with some point blank shock. From there Twnz deffed the big bridge, watching all routes and knowing that Riv had under one minute remaining to him. Riv's next two spawn were the worst for an attacker with time concerns, and the map was largely over.

MAP 4 - DESERTSTORM (Twnz pick)

ROUND 1

Twnz was into the Bunker with no preamble, although he took four runs on the Scud to finally wear down Riv's belt and underline it with a lucky primary flak to the noggin - 9:05. Luck deserted him (get it?) when he emerged from the new spawn and managed to get himself trapped behind the pile of boxes, at the mercy of Riv's prrt. Riv again cocked up royal when he let Twnz collect the pads and skip past him, forcing the defender to again chase the attacker towards an objective. Riv had to take Twnz down before he reached the ramp, but he was too far behind Twnz's bunnyhopping :bunny: and failed to even consider suiciding. Twnz ducked around the corner with 12hp remaining and the Samsite was quick to follow on a disastrous 8:20, Riv pistol whipping him right on the button. Pwntz0red :banghead:

Twnz was through the Underground in one run, up the hill in the same run, and onto the button on the exact same run, leaving 7:41 on the timer and Riv wondering wtf he had to do to kill him. Three healthpacks en route helped, but Riv still should have done much better, again choosing to camp on the hill above the attack spawn and snipe at Twnz's back, instead of getting in front of his opponent and shooting him in the face. This made it much easier for fast-moving Twnz to Usain it to the end. After such a good start in Lava and even Balli, the pressure was clearly getting to Riv, he was getting pissed off and not focusing. Easy for an armchair pundit to say, but still the truest thing ever :hm: It was like Ballistic revisited - Twnz might as well have run directly from Samsite to Final.

ROUND 2

After getting the Bunker on his second attempt, Riv picked up a flak and ran the left route. If Twnz's earlier flak on Riv was luck, Riv's was uber total luck having ridiculousness, taking all of Twnz's belt and all of Twnz full in the face on the ramp, handing Riv the Scud on a jokey 1:26. Twnz pushed out to hit Riv with some rockets at the tent, but his third try let him down and he died, dropping a bunch of rockets with his gun. Riv pushed forward low, firing rockets at the bridge, but Twnz was back with his own r/l. Riv took some damage from the spam, but timed his run in perfectly between single shots, quickly dispatching Twnz in the corner with a nicely-timed headshot :sniper: 0:45 remaining!

Not enough, though. Twnz was there with some snipe / mini comboing to wear Riv down, and the attacker only reached Underground with 5 seconds to go. A nice try but Twnz was always going to be toughest to beat at the Final area.

MAP 5 - MAZON (Riv pick)

ROUND 1

Riv's defence plan here was to take enough health off Twnz around the water so that Twnz could not hammerjump, which meant he needed to hit him just twice with enforcers each time. Twnz was out of the traps fast and heading for the Chains with rockets, but at the last second Riv got the second shot he needed before he died, forcing Twnz to take the Chains route after taking them both out with his rockets. Riv's pistols finished him but Twnz was quick to try a hammerjump on his next run. Riv was there to meet him with armour, getting Twnz's dropped rockets as his prize. Twnz started again, hitting Riv several times with sniper but taking no damage himself. This let him hammerjump up and take the Front Doors at 8:55 before Riv got rid of him once more, then pushing low to camp the door. Twnz got to the armour not soon afterwards but he only had 15hp left, so he turned around and ran back to the spawn, tossing the armour and suiciding - nice trick :coolfip: I think the spec who tried to take credit for inventing it was the same one who tried to take credit for coming up with the Lavafort ripper, but no-one cared :caek:

Riv was meanwhile back at the Reactor button, but when he saw Twnz's suicide he didn't respond in likewise fashion, in spite of only having 70hp. True, who knows where he could have spawned, but any spawn would have been fine, since none were farther away than the Reactor button  So, Riv with 70hp defending vs Twnz with 100 / 100. G. G. He died at the door, respawned by the (missing) armour and was not in time to stop Twnz's hammer off the ramp to take Reactor on an eekable 7:58 - bad mistake by Wib again. At least Twnz died on the button, á la Samsite, but his next run saw him take Riv down a further twice and take the armour, and it was that same armour that kept him from dying by Riv's pistols when he ran low and rocketed the Crystal with 7:28 to go.

ROUND 2

The fact that this round's demo file is 200kb smaller than the first round's suggests that Riv won. But maths, as we all know, lie :whatever:

Riv took both Chains on his first run, although it was pretty hairy there for a few moments, Twnz topping him just as the last rockets were released. Twnz was getting great front spawns and doing damage with pistols, in spite of suiciding after each kill :uhh: Riv's most successful runs were to the chains and it was the second of these that brought him inside, past Twnz's armour and rocket spam, and up the ramp past his opponent's dead body. Twnz once again got the perfect spawn :hm: but fucked it up by dodging off the ledge, and then had to chase Riv up the ramp with pistols. Riv hung around to pulse him into the realms of failure and sprinted to grab Reactor with 45 seconds to go. This was Riv's big chance to take it to 2-3 and save the match for a while longer - all he needed now was for Twnz to get a bad spawn while he shot the Crystal.

Mmmmmnope. Not gonna happen. Of course, Twnz got the one spawn that could have possibly been useful (by the bio gun) and got the two pistol shots in Riv's back that he needed to save the Crystal, just as Riv prepared to release rockets and dodge to the low bridge. And d1ng! d0ng! the titch was dead :shake: Btw, Riv had 50hp. Not 51, 50. Fuck sake, Twnz, talk about luck! Infuriating for Wib, but dem's teh breaksiez :cuddle:

40 seconds to go but enough said, really. Game over for Wibbles and it was Twnz v Wish in the final

Judging by the number of video views it's not worth me spending hours doing demo videos of these matches. People aren't arsed. So, just a report of Wish v Twnz in the Final - coming tomorrow

Also, should I bother doing a Survivor report? Cba spending fkin ages on it only for two and a half people to read it when they're bored.

Well it was quite an unusual time to do the report especially on a weekday. I have only just seen it now and usually wouldn't have clicked this thread either. Link it in #utapug this evening and I bet you'll get more views. I for one find the reports and videos great.

I just read some parts of the text but I saw all the videos, If there wasn't videos I probably would just look at the result and would turn around.
btw nice job doing this reports

LOL!! Just noticed that too, maybe it was a purposely done trick by Useless to make sure people are paying full attention to his reports :P

gg, both riv vs twnz matches were pretty epic and yes I do read your reviews, just not for things like survivor(where they mean nothing really....aside from the 2v2 match at the end)...i also think you need to reduce the amount you write for "drubbings" because theres usually not much to report. however in this case (riv vs twnz) the scores did not reflect the matches so doing a report here has probably been worth your time:)

All errors fixed. You barstewards :P I was doing Twnz v Riv and Twnz v Wish at the same time and copying and pasting vb code to try to get it all done quicker, mistakes kinda inevitable. Now you're reading them too closely, I can't win :banghead:

Because people lose interest fast in a match that's been played, I have to do the reports as quickly as I can afterwards, but going through all the demos two or three times for the reports and then another two or three times for the videos (getting decent angles, etc.) eats up lots of time. And the fact that all three matches were played within two or three days makes this harder, plus I just got my new college timetable and I was in every day this week :arsemiss:

Anyway, next time I'll post links in #utapug, like Wish said, I just assumed that the thread got bumped for everyone when there was a new post in it. Nice that people do read them though, thanks for that.
