Hi!

Since I moved I need to get some gismo that wirelessly can send the signal from my tv-out to the TV and I would appreciate some views on what to get. I went to a TV retailer and he recommended Tranwo Gigaair 2424 but i dunno if that is the best buy...

I would really like to be able to play and pause the pc playback from a remote if that is possible (something like the hauppauge MediaMVP would be perfect except for the fact it isnt wireless...

Linksys also has a pretty neat product, Linksys Wireless-B Media Adapter WMA11B

If anybody owns or have experince with any of these or just good knowledge in this field, pls gimme your input :)

Tnx!

Ive got another manufacturers equivelent of the gigair transmitter, it very effictively blocks wireless networking when its turned on, also wireless networking introduces noise bands every 10 seconds or so into the picture. It transmitts through walls nicely and used to to go thru 2 floors. Just started using it to transmitt 2 meters to a roof mounted projector (to save wires) if u walk between the transmitter and reciever it tends to break up :/.

For the being able to pause while watching stuff, i believe theres a few winamp plugins about for certain remotes, also u could get a wireless keyboard and learn shortcuts (eg, space, ctrl-p etc.)

Tnx for the input Pyron!

talked to linksys and it seems there product dont handle movies very well :\

As for the remote i only have one for the tv-card and that one i dont think will work for controlling wmp, bsplayer, vlc etc :\ and a cordless keyboard/mouse is not an option either since its about 15m and one floor between the pc and the TV.

What brand do you use for thte cordless transfer?

Anybody knows any good sites about this?

I've not seen any products which stream video over wireless.. however you could try www.geexbox.org

This is used if you have an older PC next to your TV in the lounge for example. Geexbox is a 5mb ISO which you burn, and boot the lounge PC up from the CD. It doesn't write any data to disk, it just turns the PC into a sort of media server. This lets you play DIVX/MPEG/video etc over a network from your main PC in the office/computer room. Reboot the machine and it goes back into Windows whatever. No changes made to your PC.

I have:

TV in front room ---[svideo cable]--- Geezbox PC ---[NIC]--- Switch ---[CAT5 to office]------[switch]---[NIC]---[Windows/Linux PC]

I can stream any videos/mp3 or images to the front room if they are shared on the network.

In your case, there is no reason why Geexbox shouldn't work over a wireless network in the same way. Obviously though, your Wireless Adapter/Card will need to be supported by Geexbox/Linux - but I'd say you have a good chance of it working. If not, then either get a card that is supported by linux.

Another down side is that you need a PC up and running to play these videos.. DIVX and MPEG compression requires a bit of processing power, so I don't think its viable for d-link and other companies to make the equipment which is capable of all the decoding for the right price.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?moduleno=29325 brought it from here a year or 2 ago.

Btw what tv card u got? theres hauppauge remote plugins etc for winamp, goto winamp and do a search for remote under plugins section. Theyve even got 1s for creative infrared cd drives, lol.

Btw if u use the infrared extender bit b prepared to spend a lot of time pressing the remote buttons as hard as u can to make it work better :P (is a bit tempremental)

Tnx for the tips

@Martz: If wife doesn't kill me when I suggest bringing another PC into the house that is probably the best option but would that mean both PC:s would have to be linux? I also wonder if i could use a wireless keyboard/mouse to controll the movie/music player from the livingroom?

@PyROm: I got a WinFast TV2000 XP Deluxe But i guess i will have to wait to solve the remote thing until i have found the solution i want, right now i am looking at Digisender Gold and am awaiting a reply from them to see if it will do what i want it to :)

Geexbox will read Windows file shares, so you can host your movies/mp3 on Win 95/98/2K/XP etc. I only said linux <--> linux because thats the way I have it, with samba sharing my stuff. Look around for a fanless/diskless PC or similar.. or even laptop etc. Remember, you don't have to know anything about linux to get gentoo working.. it just boots up and works like a DVD menu/system.

I use a MS wireless keyboard/mouse with geexbox and it works fine.. since it doesn't require any software to be loaded. I haven't tested the range from the other room tho :]
