oh dear me building a new machine as a Music recording tool has got somewhat out of hand......................

I have now got an Asus p4p800 deluxe mobo
Audigy zs soundcard
p4 2.4 processor a gig of ram
Antec Ali case
I am currently deciding on new gfx card...............................
phantom mic input ARX e-Pre
Sony pru DVD
liteon writer

what i want to know is my old 17" crt is looking a bit battered and I am looking for something new-what are peoples opinions? I am considering a TV card as well - particularly if i can pipe cable thru it! is this possible???

Tv/monitor combo thingys look ok put the prices seem prohibitive...............................

What monitor CRT or TFT? whats got most bang for the buck?

What TV card? and is it possible to recieve cable thru it? I am on NTL

Thx for your time in advance:)

Have you considered looking at a radeon 9800 pro AIW @ around £200, thats tv card and gfx card in one. It supports cable input however im not sure about encrypted channnels, worse case is that you have to use the video input and feed the signal from ur box into the card rather than direct.
Otherwise have a look at TV cards like those from Hauppage.

As for a monitor a crt will be a lot cheaper and do the job perfectly, if ur pushed for space then go for a TFT.

basically, what mym said. :P hes totally right with everything there.
The ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW should be your preference as its a great gfx card and the TV part is also supposed to be (very?) good.
Dunno about Hauppage TV cards nowadays, but back in the days my bro had one and they sucked. I have a Tevion one, dont know if you can get these in UK (its a german company selling their stuff at Aldi), but Im quite satisfied with it. but its really a mainstream card, nothing special.

monitor: go by the criteria mym listed. if you want a CRT then I can SO recommend the LG Flatron series, I myself using a F700P and its so fuckin good IMO. 17", that is. I think the 19" is F900P, not sure.

If you are concerned about the quality of your recordings I wouldn't buy a Creative soundcard at all, search some stuff in here:

http://www.edirol.com/

Also, I would check that the components are silent enough if you are going to record in the same place as the computer.
