Infra-red will also pick up some other gases really well, including CO2, CO and H2S, all of which are present in farts. Nevertheless, that vid was faked as most of the gas would have stayed in his trousers at least to start with. The fart was also suspiciously long.

Given that the gas was jet BLACK I'm inclined to believe it was also freezing cold CO2.

The gas has a dif temp than the air outside the body also the cam used isnt a reg thermal cam, its a special cam used for gas something or the other. It has a special name but i cba looking it up again.

AS for dispersion...ive seen ppl light it up, but im not going to claim either way.
