IMPORTANT: mIRC exploit information

Please upgrade your mIRC client

Why?
This is to stop other users on IRC from exploiting your IRC client and disconnecting you from IRC. Please follow the instructions below to protect yourself from this bug in mIRC, and the idiots who are using it on others.

Consequences
Any users found to be using this exploiting on the IRC network will be permanatly banned from our IRC networks or community resources. We are also aware that this is being used on Quakenet by people in utassault.net clans, so this isn't a specific problem with the utassault.net/WAR network. Using such attacks against people on any IRC network is lame and these people will not be tolerated in utassault.net.

People on the utassault.net forums have already been warned about this exploit in mIRC, however there are still many people who are at risk.

mIRC upgrade Instructions

1. Go to www.mirc.co.uk and download the latest version of mIRC for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP (6.12), or click here for a direct downloads: [UK] [Germany] [Holland] [Denmark] [Spain]
2. Close mIRC if you have it running already
3. Run and install mirc612.exe over the top of your current IRC directory (it should find this automatically) or you can find this by clicking on your current mIRC shortcut icon and selecting properties: look for the path to mirc.exe)
4. Start up mIRC again

Quick fix
If your still using miRC 6.0 or lower, you need to type this command in mIRC every time you connect:

/ignore -wd *

If you need any assistance, or find that someone is using this exploit against you, please contact an operator(@) in #staff

As a note, for those using the /ignore -wd * fix, this just disables all DCC requests on all networks..
Remember that if you need to recieve a DCC.

How can I trust you? What does that /ignore command do? To learn what it does, type: /help /ignore (again on a new line by itself). It's just a command to ignore DCCs, you can turn it off any time by /ignore -rwd * The command is also in the topic of #mIRC on any large network such as EFnet, IRCnet, DALnet, etc.

But how do I download files now? If you really want, you can exempt certain trusted people from the ignore: first do /ignore -wd * then /ignore -x nickname where nickname is the trusted exemption.
