STEPS FOR ELIMINATING BANNER BOXES ON ICQ
Make sure ICQ is not Running.
1- Download Reshack from
www.rpi.net.au/~ajohnson/resourcehacker/
2- Look for Auto Update in your registry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mirabilis\ICQ\DefaultPrefs
And set the value to "No"
3- Delete the following files from your ICQ folder
icqateima32.dll (removes advertisement downloading)
icqateimg32.dll (removes the loading of images)
icqateres.dll (removes part of the advertisement function)
4- Open ICQCore.dll in Reshack.
4a Go through each of the Dialogs till you see one with
a banner box.
4b Click the banner box and it will highlight the control
for that box.
4c Change the last 2 numbers in that control to 0, 0 Example;
CONTROL "", 1070, "{9F9012BA-E55B-11D3-ADE7-0090270D8F00}",
0x50000000, 1, 158, 260, 38
Becomes
CONTROL "", 1070, "{9F9012BA-E55B-11D3-ADE7-0090270D8F00}",
0x50000000, 1, 158, 0, 0
4d Change the main dialog box size coordinates (at the top of the
script) to
Ad box y coordinate +1. Example: for above control you take the 158
then change the main dialog box y coordinate to 158+1 (159) So;
2503 DIALOGEX 0, 0, 262, 196
Becomes
2503 DIALOGEX 0, 0, 262, 159
NOTE The last four digits are position/size coordinates - first set
is x,y position, the second set is x,y size.
4e Compile the script
4f Repete for all dialogs with banner ads then save the file (Have a
backup of ICQCore.dll
just in case something goes wrong)

I don't have any ads, but I'd try #2 and #3 and use the .dll fom the bottom link.

I dont like the ads.....but not enough to go through all that messin about.

Especially when i still dont have a clue how to do it :)

Mac version - The ads are, whats the word, hidden in all the ICQ windows so you only see them sub consuosly.

Hmm.. Maybe i should read some more books so I have better spelling. :p

EDIT: I don´t have AD´s in the Message Windows! (ICQ2000b) Only the SMS Button is in the Users Bar!

I really do not understand how they got there...
They arrived about the same time Neo made that other post (Why Does ICQ Suck... Or sommet)!!!
No idea why some people got them and others did not. I was at home at the time, about 40 miles from where I am now. And my Home PC got them the second day I was there ! I didn't do anything. But when I got back here (Uni) My ICQ here didn't have them as always then.. I logged onto it again after getting cut off the web and they were there. No Download was required ICQ just uploaded them to my PC somehow. And no that poxy little SMS Button is not what we are refering too !! That is nothing in comparison to what happens !!
But they can easily be removed with that Dll :)

Well I didn't have em on 2000b, then on the night in question I got the latest build# as it promised to be able to SMS to one2one.
As soon as i loaded it up I had to other exe files try to access the net (alerted by zonealarm). While the alert was on the screen i searched for the exe in question. ICQ???.exe, lol i should have written it down - it was SUPPOSED to be in the icqfiles subdirectory i think.
Anyway the file was not there. Yes i got hidden files shown etc.. It was not there. I think I then allowed it access to the net (doh!).
Subsequent messages on the new build had ads but no matter how many times I started ICQ again that other file didn't pop up (I removed it from ZA) which is wierd.

HMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!

Well after getting the new build and doing the above (using the dll provided). I don't seem to require anyones Authorisation to add them to my contact list.
Something which is very bad indeed. :(

I just got accused of using a hack from Crusader when i tried to add him.

After some tests the I found that the ICQCORE.DLL for download has a hack in it to remove the need for Authorisation.
I would like a version without this if anyone cares to make one :p
