everyone slides a bit on my screen.... but i know its not (normally) their fault, its cos my pc is a big pile of wank and i get an average fps of about 10 on most maps.

The other thing that makes ppl slide is their connection. all people on a 300 ping are gonna slide to someone on isdn/cable/dsl/etc cos they arnt updating as much as the guy on the good connection. Then theres people with their super 1000000000Mbit connection who slide more than some prick on a 14.4k, *cough* Timo *cough*, thats cos they live in some weird country like Sweden :lol: , theres just bad routing to the servers in the UK :)

Sure it you may lose a map cos of some laggy bastard but dont go around accusing them of using some lag sliding hack.. if you must bitch, do it about their connection or your pc (like i do;) )

cheats and also people who will use them.

I have been playing on publics for a VEEEEEEERY long time now, and I've never seen very much cheaters on them... honestly.

I didnt bother reading all the above posts, so i wont give my opineon.But a few weeks ago i ran into the aimbot on a public TO server<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> Needless to say there was some ownage, but in TO u can vote ppl out or change team if friendly fire is on and hunt the bastard down with a shotgun(nasty weapon in close range:evil: )Which atleast gives u away to strike back, unlike AS.

what AS needs is a console vote mutator like TO, its very good actually.......

Im all for ganging up on ppl who ruin public games, i think that would spoil the spoilers fun.

Thing is: We don't need a kick system, we need an ignore function (for spammers) and proper updates to prevent cheating and an autokick for the idiots who camp with charged hammer on weaponspawnpoints (and maybe the other ones, too). There are still public servers where flagshooting is possible.

Having just gone from a 150-200 ping to a 50-100 ping, I can say that its 99.9% connection and server. I have seen very few people slide, and the 1 or 2 that have all seem to have high pings or are complaining of packet loss.

And I have never been 0wned enuf by anyone to be convinced they are cheating, and I aint the best player out there. In fact, to me some of the most suspicious things out there are Neo's sniping and McNeill's dodging (hehe sorry guys) but I'm not convinced they are cheating, and if they are, and thats how good cheating is then I aint gonna worry, sure they are better than me but they don't make me @#%$ my pants and cry thinking I'm gonna get 0wned every time I see them :) Most likely they just practiced a lot, and I'm not gonna take that away from them just cos I don't have the time / inclination to practice that much.

Also sorry to Gazzy for the same reason.

Might be true that servers have gone downhill. My
chain of reasoning was based on this.

Sliding confuses server.
Players you hit but not get impacted at all when getting hit by splash damage weapons means sliding. You are teleported around even though ping is fine.

Conclusion was that there was a bind that results in
the server being constantly confused.

What would the problem be if UT was placed on a too
weak server? Guess it could be setup so it still gives
a good ping but still is way behind. Dunno.

Skill or lack of skill is not part of that equation.
I know there are lots of players way much better than
I ever will be.

Yes i hardly never se anyone slide when i have good connection and if they do they are people with connection problems, not the guys who scores objectives.

And yes as uzi says, ppl with good cable can have lots of PL. My ping to the isp is 10 so of course i can have low ping even if one of the later hops is through a sucky line ( lines to uk ).

I've seen many slides to take objectives. Mazon switch is a classic.. Final objective Bridge & Hispeed. Rook lib-opening. You name it. :cool:
Wether it's coincident or not, I've seen lots of it..

slide to final objective on bridge (and on may other maps, but primarilly bridge) i think is due to the map actually + all the information that travels cross the bridge :)

ive played on a modem from sweden, and now im off a 10mb, and it really doesnt matter at some points, sure the game is less holiday-on-iceish now - but on some maps/locations/occations its still very much a matter of who got the best skates on for the day.

tho i miss my modem on bridge b4 i usually was able to slide across it, now i feel im much more vulnreable? that a fact?

Pretty sur eit is Mezz, I just wnet from 50 to 250 ping with about 20-30 pl at a guess and although it mainly has disadvantages like minigun becomming pretty much totally useless as well as sniper and the often suicides with rocketlauncher, it also has the adavtage of sometimes getting the odd lucky slide.

I'm on a cable with a ping of 30-60 on good servers and some maps, even against ppl with equally good pings, turn into ice rinks with ease.

Final objective on Bridge, with 12 ppl on the bridge, it's aim and hope.
Final run on Rook, same thing.

Kawa: you also need constant fps, a lot of ppl seem to make do with 20 and it will soon drop to like 2 on maps like bridge.

Gen: go spec him sniping, it ain't no aimbot, I play him every now and then 1v1 and even I think sometimes he is cheating, he just is that good with sniper, but i still 0wn him with flak if I ever get close enuf, lol

well i been playin as long as most and i`ve been looking for all kind of cheats ,not so i can use em ,but so i can say he beat me coz he uses em,and so i dont feel like a @#%$ player ,well i give up looking now and come to conclusion that there is none ,,i`ve asked good players how they doit ,and they all say same thing ,PRACTICE.so i`ll stay @#%$ for now coz i hate practicing

I have done some thinking on how a game might appear laggy even though the network connection looks OK.

One possible explanation could be the server dropping already received packages. If the server cannot process
packages at the rate it receives packages it would have no other option than to throw some packages away.
What else could it do?

The symptoms the players would get is packet loss symptoms. Does not matter if the network or the server is the one that drops the packages. Difference is package loss symptoms with nice network statistics.

In the past have I assumed that lots of players have been using some funny "mini-lag" bind. Basis for that are things like clearly hitting somebody with a splash damage weapon without anything happening.

Like running directly behind somebody on Rook firing flaks in his back and nothing happens. The other player does not appear not even notice.
Then after a while he notices, turns around to fire back and then I get him. Checking pings show nice 100 values for both. Then I start wondering wtf is going on here. But say my fire flak packages where dropped by the server, my client runs the fire animation, the server never registers hits and he never get notification that somebody is shooting at him.
Please note he got killed at the same time he appeared to notice being shot at. That is, when the server
starts registering.

Looks like server problems with good network stats could explain many weird things.
