When I have turned my pc off and want to start it again it makes a sound like: clonk, clonk, clonk repededly. Usuually one of my harddrive also has disapered in the boot up screen where all the pci stuff is shown (the same hdd every time). After numers times of turning it off for about 3 secs and then restarting it, it usually finds the hdd and boots up fine. I figured it was a malfunctioning hdd and disconnected it but to my surprise i still get the sound so i tried to disconnect the other nonbootup hdd but it still game me the clonk sounds so i tried boot with another hdd instead but no matter what hdd i have installed i get the clonk sound.

After installing seagates SeaTools Desktop v3.02.04 and running the diagonics i get the following error log for my C and D drive which are 2 partitions of the same drive:

Diagnostic Results:

90-Second Test Result: Passed
Recommendation:
The "Quick Test" is adequate for most situations.
Consider running the "Full Test" which
verifies each sector on the drive if you need to run a more
comprehensive diagnostic.

SMART Status Check Result: Passed

S.M.A.R.T., (S)elf (M)onitoring (A)nalysis and (R)eporting (T)echnology, a built-in
hard disk drive failure prediction method reports an 'Alert' if a problem has occurred.
It reports 'Passed' if no problems are found and 'Unsupported' if a hard disk drive
does not support S.M.A.R.T.
Full Diagnostic Scan Result: Passed

Recommendation:
All selected physical diagnostics passed.

If you are not experiencing data loss and SeaTools reports File
System Structure errors, they may be caused by a lock-up or
failure to shutdown Windows correctly. Many times, these errors
may be repaired through normal system maintenance which
includes using the Windows provided "Defrag" and
"Scandisk / Chkdsk / Error Checking" utilities.

If you are experiencing a hardware error, you should isolate
the cause and replace the failing component. If you are unsure how
to proceed with repairs, contact a computer professional. After
completing any maintenance tasks, run SeaTools again to
verify that all errors have been repaired. If errors continue to
occur, the system may not be stable. Again, contact a computer
professional.

I have run errorchecking with both the error fix options enabled and Defrag included with WinXP without getting the errors fixed. I have also run Norton Disc Doctor from the CD but that didnt help either. Does anybody know a program that could fix the errors. I really hate spending 30-60 mins just to get the pc running and now I am about to install watercooling :) but I really want to get the hdd errors fixed.

I expect the log from the other two sata drives to look the same, it did last time I ran SeaTools Desktop but this time I only ran it on one drive since i hadn't figured out how to get the reports but now i know how to, will post the other logs tomorrow.

Big tnx!

Check sata leads

then run safemode with command prompt

and run

chkdsk C: /f/r

the /F /R switch tells chkdsk to both fix file system errors and check the hard disk for physical errors

3rd party utilities are no better at fixing this than xp
