64 bit UT2K4 ..is this true ?

Anyone know if theres been any benchmarks ...64bit ut2k4 on 64bit processor VS 32bit ut2k4 on 32 bit processor ?

People who have 64bit processors Humph.

From what ive seen the drivers for Win64 arent up to scratch yet and actually perform less (in some cases up to 50% less) than on 32bit windows. Nvidia owners are the only ones that have access to 64 bit drivers, Ati havent released any yet. There are resident Ati drivers in Win64 but the Direct3D performance is poor and OpenGL is pratically non functional.

As people have said, UT2004 will have 64bit support out the box (this is offical, Epic announced it months ago).

The UT2004 demo DOESNT run at 64bits. There is a 64bit linux demo (which is different from the 32bit one AFAIK), but the windows demo is 32bit only.

Then maybe its better if i go for an amd64bit based system now that im going to(hopefully) buy a new comp. Probably wont be that long until drivers and stuff is working properly for an all out 64 bit system.

ps. is it possible to put ppl on an ignorelist here , like in icq ?

It wouldnt make sence to release a 64bit windows version yet anyway, as theres no official windows with 64bit support...

Well, there is the official WindowsXP64 beta you can download from Microsoft.
But you may have trouble finding 64bit drivers for all your components which you will need to make them run.

When IBM changed the addressing mode on their mainframes the programs told the processor what addressing mode they where running in (via linkage editor for the techneerds). A program running in a larger addressing mode could address more virtual memory. That was the only difference. I don't think there is any reason why a 64bit processor would be any faster that something else. Larger addressing space for applications give some design advantages when they become very large. It will probably take several years before any noticable improvements are observed. So getting a 64bit processor now sounds like a waste of money.

But there must be a reason for the Playstation2 to have a 128 bit processor, for instance, or ? It cant be that it has an enourmous harddrive or an enourmous ammount of ram.

Well, I run the ut2k4 demo on a clean 64bit system and afaik the engine has been programmed to utilize the g5 chipset.

...and cyberslob is somewhat right, the main added advantage of a 64bit system over a 32bit is its ability to address more memory. As with any new chip / system generation, it will take some while before it is utilized, good examples of this is to compare early games with new on the same gaming console... but the extra bandwidth, any sensible 64bit system will be designed with, should give ya more oomph none the same...
