it was a good decision to give Russia a part of their teritory (small part...im not sure, but it was ~10% of their teritory...some Suomi can say more about that)...why?
because they kept independent (Finland is a country where lived not so many ppl, they couldnt beat SU, so it was best way to finish this war while they can stop it and dont lost independent)...after war they was a free country, not like Poland, Czechoslovakia, DDR, Hungary

i saw how many new rich russians behave in the foreign countries.

english, german and american visitors maybe arent loved in foreign countries, but compared to those newish rich russians, they are angels.
btw it was no secret that the russian army in the pre- and even early WW2 era, was a mess.
They were bad trained, had oldish weapons/tanks and a lack of organisation.
The only benefit russia always had and will have: their incredible hugeness and hard winters.
The german army could have conquered russia as fast as they did with France, but thankfully they underestimated teh hugeness and the winter. At the end they suffered from teh lack of ressources and reinforcements.
So Hitler learned the same lesson Napoleon learned centuries earlier.

I think that russians had enuff army to easy defeat finland, and imo it was good decision that they gave part of their teritory to soviet union
well...Smantie...imo this small Finland army couldnt win this war...they finished war as fast as it was possible...so small country couldnt keep possitions agains so big army like Red Army...

i didnt tell that Yeltsin was better as president...you give some pluses of Putin/Medvedev...now i will only say:
- free media in Russia and freedom of expression (Politkovskaya, Khodorkovsky)
- Litvinenko
- Georgia/Ossetia/Abkhazia

Khodorkovsky was a junior Komsomol aparatchik who over the night bought a few billion $ worth oil company for peanuts ( i think it was 200 000$) and then refused 2 give his share back 2 country from which he stole and for that he only got 15 years in jail ( i would give him 40 at least) so much for cruelty.
Politovskaya and Litvinenko were true freedom fighters and democrats dont forget berezovsky 2 ( yeah sure god bless america)

Ossets and Abhaz made up 70-85% of ppl in those gerorgian areas + both abhazian and south ossetia were soviet socialist autonomous regions in CCCP which gives them right 2 break away from georgia much like kosovo did from serbia.

3. i didnt tell that it aws good move of Georgia (attack Ossetians)...but Russia shouldnt move with tanks ti Georgia...they forgot that they arent Soviet Union...and they cant use army in all democratic countries near their teritory like in Hungary '56/Czechoslovakia '68 ...they should try to solve problem in diplomatic way...

EXACTLY WHAT IM SAYING. I had to work for the 'new rich' Russians all summer. The girls were stupid, ugly and snobby, the men were destructive, violent (such as walking around punching holes in walls and picking fights for no reason) and genuinely dumb.
Not idioticy, but behaviour.
Sure, in every nation you've dumb, smart, chilled, aggressiv, loud, disciplined people, but nevertheless some nations have their typically behaviour.
I'm not here to judge the nations, becuase i know that every nation have positive and negative aspects.
But what i experienced with such new rich russians were over the top. I can sign most things smantie listed.

Shame we have such a short common border, will get crowded...Actually after Winter War Finland surrendered some territory (Karelia and some up north) to the SU, won that back during the Continuation War and then had to retreat again. So the borderline remained about the same as after the Winter War in the end. The continuation war ran quite smoothly for as long as the Germans kept advancing on the Eastern front. At some point the good 'ol boy from Austria asked Finland to assist in the siege of Leningrad but Mannerheim didn't buy it. Eventually Mannerheim had to step down and a separate peace treaty was negotiated with the Soviets some time before Germany surrendered. Implied huge economical 'donations of good will' so to say to USSR, ships, trains, machinery.. you name it. Nevertheless, the result of zero Soviet troops in Finland was quite OK
americans rich or poor and most western europeans r way more dumber and more annoying then any russian, i ll rather be stuck with dumb annoying russians then an "intelligent" american (or western european)
