ut will perform worse on windows xp no matter what drivers u have it uses more resources now on pc's that aint state of the art it will cause problem's if u dont have 512mb of ram with win xp u start having problems
u can turn off alot of running processes go to start > settings > control panel > administrative tools > services
check whats running alot of things u wont need if ur not sure stop it set to manual if u know for sure like me i dont need portable serial media reader or a print spooler i dont have a printer so i stop them and set to disabled got through what u dont need.
there are 10 times more tweaks for windows xp for better performance if u really need them
make sure u have iaa from intel ( aplication accelerator )
make sure ur hard drive is defragged it cause problems in ut sometimes.

at moment im using this great feature of windows xp aswell which anyone should try
Instead of disabling HW and stopping services, let's say for gaming, create a Hardware Profile.
Right click on My Computer - select Properties. Select Hardware Tab, then click Hardware Profiles.
Mark "Original Configuration", then Copy and then Rename to e.g "Game" Now you have created a menu that shows up when you boot your computer. Set the properties for your boot option in the "Hardware profiles selections" You normally would boot with the Original Configuration. Never delete your "Original Configuration" if you boot in another profile. Reboot your
computer to see that this takes effect.
u can boot into 2 different windows setup's with this with different settings for everything.
i could list aload of other stuff ive done in the past but people would probably start arguing
