End of the world
Sometimes when I'm playing UT, mostly Assault :p:, UT freezes up and I can't play anymore. My mouse is dead, keyboard is not dead but just doesnt work anymore. The only way to get out of it is to press ctrl-alt-del and kill UT. It's very weird coz UT keeps running and I can be shot and all but I just cant move anymore :\

All this started since I installed XP a few weeks back. Does anyone else experience thse problems and is there a solution for all this shit?

Thx,

Pxz0rz

Noticed the same, but happens only very few times to me (exactly 1 time so far), and it's weird. problem started for me with XP aswell

Well known problem, I don't think there are any sure fixes, but there are a few things you can do to make it better I think. Different ppl have different solutions.

Ill wait and see what others tell me :D
Thanks anyway :)

Also, it sometimes happens to me three times a day in like 2 houres. Or it doesnt happen at all. It's not that it happens after X amount of time spend behind UT, just randomly :S

the old xp freeze bug
there is no known fix afaik and it happens to all of us ;/

I had this problem ALOT before but i reinstalled all drivers DID'NT install sp1 checked dxdiag make sure everything is fine there

and in the past 4 months its not happened once.

Yep, Dont get the bad idea, winxp is very good, but I must admit 2 things with unreal tournament since i have xp installed

1) Performance dropping; Dunno why but looks like ut gets a 40% frame drop if you run it on winxp:(

2) A lot of crashing:(

But there was a new patch released 4.40 or so. I know this one is for servers, but cant they make this patch work for clients. Maybe it will help for winxp users;)

ut will perform worse on windows xp no matter what drivers u have it uses more resources now on pc's that aint state of the art it will cause problem's if u dont have 512mb of ram with win xp u start having problems

u can turn off alot of running processes go to start > settings > control panel > administrative tools > services

check whats running alot of things u wont need if ur not sure stop it set to manual if u know for sure like me i dont need portable serial media reader or a print spooler i dont have a printer so i stop them and set to disabled got through what u dont need.

there are 10 times more tweaks for windows xp for better performance if u really need them

make sure u have iaa from intel ( aplication accelerator )

make sure ur hard drive is defragged it cause problems in ut sometimes.

Instead of disabling HW and stopping services, let's say for gaming, create a Hardware Profile.

Right click on My Computer - select Properties. Select Hardware Tab, then click Hardware Profiles.

Mark "Original Configuration", then Copy and then Rename to e.g "Game" Now you have created a menu that shows up when you boot your computer. Set the properties for your boot option in the "Hardware profiles selections" You normally would boot with the Original Configuration. Never delete your "Original Configuration" if you boot in another profile. Reboot your
computer to see that this takes effect.

u can boot into 2 different windows setup's with this with different settings for everything.

i could list aload of other stuff ive done in the past but people would probably start arguing

if u have 256 u can geta big drop in performance aswell really you need 512 ram to run xp and be able to play games fine
