OK, I am having trouble trying to figure out how to turn off the incredibly distracting white arrows that show the direction to the enemy flag. I can't find any option in the settings to turn it off. any help would be appreciated, i am sure i am overlooking something simple.

If you look in the menus you can disable it. Selecting DISABLE takes other useful stuff you might want to leave in though. Selecting SPECIAL OPS leaves some useful information but gets rid of the arrows. Apparently this doesn't work in CTF though
