QUAD or DUAL

You gotta be kidding DJ.
You dont wanna buy a Quadcore because a 10 years old game called UT possibly wont run as you are used to?

First of all: UT is old, way behind the age and doesnt run good with newish graphic cards, under Vista and doesnt even run under Windows 7 Beta at all.
So the problem is not the hardware, it's a game that was developed for WIndows98, Pentium3 processors and Voodoo cards.

So this outdated "thing" shouldnt be a valid point taking in consideration when buying a new system. Sooner or later it wont run anyway.
Get a quad, in few years you'll be glad you got that. Dont invest money in an dieing socket 775.

here's an interesting performance (differented in gaming and office) list:

The i7s are a completly new architecture. Actually there is no FSB anymore.
But ofc there is are different versions. A good price/performance rating has the i7 920

The Core2 is basically a Pentium Pro for the socket 775. Core2quads are no native quadcores, they are just two Dualcores clued together in one CPU-die.

my laptop runs windows 7 and ut fine
also my quad desktop runs winxp ut fine.. its the 2year old quad i forget the number but its fine...

i wouldnt get the quad unless your gonna utilize them all encoding somethign, else dual is fine
