It doesn’t have to be funny all the time. Cartoons can work on many levels. Calvin & Hobbes doesn’t always have me rolling in stitches, but I still enjoy the strips.

Pfff. There are hundreds of Dilbert, Garfield and Hobbes strips that don’t make you laugh. But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them.

A comic strip doesn't have to make you laugh to be funny; it could just be that the comic was only funny enough to warrant a smile instead of a laugh.
