Online Play Problem?!

On occasions over the last month or so i've been getting a UT online problem that i have named `stepping'. Rather than running smoothly down a corridor or whatever, i seem to `step' along. Certain maps seem to be more guilty of this than others, namely Guardia. The problem can also go as easily as it arrived during any 1 stint of playing.
Any1 got any ideas how to possibly sort this or even reduce it?...or is it just 1 of those things?

My spec:- 1.3AMD, GF2 Ultra, ADSL

hm... did u mess around with ur netspeed?
if u set it low enough it will limit ur frames per sec

No...its set on the default, 10000 i think. It used to be perfect, pings 25-40 and run smooth constantly...but the last month or so i've been getting slightly higher pings but with luuvely spikes (although i sense a lot of ppl are getting this atm)...and this `stepping' bollox
