Dont see point in buying a expensive gfx card atm as CPU's limit what they can do in games like farcry and d3 ? saw some bench's and at 1024*768 every gfx card was almost the same because the cpu was even holding back x800 pro's let alone xt's...

buy a cheaper card and wait out till summer next year

unless u waste 3-4 thousand euro's on a fx53 system.......

atm my gfx card is the "bottleneck" not my cpu ( see sig ) think it's better that way than buying expensive gfx cards with a bottlenecked cpu..

thats why you also compare the cards (its a GFX-card benchmark you saw there, I take it) at higher resolutions, as youre planning on using them there anyway...

PS: an Athlon FX-53 system should cost you 1k-1,5k Euros, maybe a few hundred more but never over 2000 ;)

get a 22 million inch flatscreen and some minted speakers, im sure i could push the price over 5000 :D

athlon fx53 is around 600-700 in UK so alot more in euro's.

Dont see point in playing in resolutions over 1280*1024 and 1024*768 is fine i always have problems going above 1024*768 in all games characters look squashed and long mouse takes longer to move across the screen

but even in higher res x800xt is being cpu bottlenecked so it's pointless wasting that much money.

anyway, these features are being implemented in the games that are in development right now. so Felerian, you're saying the cards have so much features that arent being used by the software companies? well you just wait for Half Life 2, or Stalker, or Fear (to name a few of the most anticipated upcoming titles) or many other titles that are to be released this year or Q1 Next year.
Right now, one should (IMO) only buy one of the new cards if hes looking to play Doom3 on really good settings. Otherwise, it may be smarter to wait a few months and then buy it (if money matters to you).
But if you buy it now, its a really good investment in future compatibility. And thats the bottom line really.

what i was trying to say is that... by the time the software (games) can really use the cards really good (exclude doom3 for now) the games you mentioned neph all coming in about 3-6 months or more right?
Well i bet till then the graficcard does not cost 600€ maybe 400€ ... why not wait those few months?
thats what i would do cuz i dont have the money... i would not even buy a graficcard for 400€ to be honest.. its just too much... but i guess thats a thing everybody has to take up with for hisself...
for myself i am a poor guy with less money :)

PS: Paa is right :P

yeah I wouldnt pay more than 250 € for one piece of hardware either, tbh, unless I won some money in the lottery or something.

paa, reason everything looks squashed at 1280x1024 is that the screen ratio is out. try 1280x960.

800/600 = 1.3333
1024/768 = 1.3333
1280/960 = 1.3333
1280/1024 = 1.25

Here i listed 3 "comps" that are very good and cost about 500€.
(i am sure you can get the stuff cheaper but i wanted a average price)

For myself i would prefer to take one of those and a cheaper gfx-card for example maybe a GF FX 5900 TX with 128 MB RAM or a Radeon 9600XT with 256 MB RAM, both Graficcards cost about 170-190€.
So i would have a PC for like 600-700€ depending if i want Intel or AMD.

But ofcourse if money does not matter and i would have a donkey shitting it i would get the graficcard for 600€ aswell :P

farcry is the game i play lately
and its a ownage card...

Farcry worked perfectly on my Radeon 9700 Pro.
But if you want a nice card and don´t care much about the money, then maybe go for the Radeon X800XT.

the x800xt and the gf6800ultra arent available in stock anywhere (well at least in germany, I guess). You'll have a very hard time getting one of these.

Can just about get a 6800U here, although stock usually isnt enough to cover backorder and the makes available are very limited, seems to be mostly XFX.
Not seen an x800xt avail yet :(

I've seen an X800XT promotional BOX dudes.. I did.. I TOUCHED IT!
And I strangled my mate when he asked me wtf I was doing (he had never heard of the card)

Ah right, just checked the delivery information. In Sweden it says the X800XT 256mb will be available from the beginning of september.

They have been avail on and off for past 3 month's in UK in limited amounts..
