Hey Guys ! Perhaps somebody can help me out to fix my problems with recording demos.
I started recording demos by typing demorec xyz in my console and when I watched them afterwards i saw them in 1stpersonview (same view like playing). Then as everybody knows i could see them in 3rdpersonview by typing demoplay xyz?3rdperson. Then I installed demomanger 2.0 and recorded demos by clicking at demomanger record and wrote in name and afterwards i could see them in 1stpersonview (same view like as if I play) or in 3rdpersonview by clicking the little box 3rdpersonview. OK up to here everything was normal.
Then I read about a keybind for demorec and according to my nature I had to try it out (should have better not doing that).
I copied 28 txt-files named autorec 1 - autorec 28 in my UT/System directory. In these files are written for example for autorec 1 : demorec 1.dem
set input Pause exec autorec2.txt
Then i bound to my Pause-key : Pause=exec demorec1.txt
and i bound to PrintScrn-button rintScrn=set input Pause exec autorec1.txt
I tried it out and it worked - but now my problem :
ALL DEMOS I RECORDED from then ARE IN BEHING-VIEW.
I can change between behindview of eách player even of the enemies in a special radius of my own position or I can watch in own camera-view. Since I used the keybind I can t record demos in 1stpersonview. I tried to demorec by typing in console and I tried to demorec by clicking at the demomanager-it still works but all demos are in this behindview and i can t change to 1stperonview. And another strange thing is that i can t click between 3repersonview or not at the little box at my demomanger- the box is grey and i can t click it anymore after recorded a demo since using the keybind.
Would be nice if somebody helps me !

i think when you record demos (and you play just normal in 1stpreson) then all demos are recorded kinda the same.

so: (when u wanna watch the demos) try and uncheck (somehow) that 3rdperson-view box of the demomanager.
if you fail (maybe because u have the udemo.ini write-protected?) try and play the demos just by typing "demoplay xyz" again. and if that won't work (i think it HAS to work) then you can try the demoplayer (the one that opens demos from within windows for you)

Thx Hardcore but it s still the same. My udemo.ini wasn t write-protocted.
The strange thing is that everthing was normal untill the day I first used this keybind for demorec posted in my last post.
From this time I can t demorec a demo and watch it afterwards in 1stpersonview ( as if i play ). All demos that i record are in behindview (i can change during all players and own camera ) but as i said always only behindview. And it does not depend on how i record ;
typing in console _ demorec xyz does not work in 1stpersonview
recording with demomanager by click does not work in 1stpersonview.
The recording works-but if i watch the demos they are in behindview.
My old demos which i recorded before the day i used that demorec-keybind are still normal - i can watch them in 1stpersonview. But from the day i used that keybind i can t record demos in 1stpersonview or i would call it normal view.
So plz help !
P.S. : Hoffentlich bekommt AAK wieder ne schlagkräftige Squad zusammen !

I'm assuming u r playing the demos with demomanager ?

If so, try typing demoplay 1

if that works, I would assume its a problem with demomanager, try deleting the udemo.ini or if that dont work uninstall demomanager and reinstall demomanager

Thx Ace,
but I forgot to mention that it also doesn t depend on how i play demos which were recorded after i used that keybind for demorec
If I type console : demoplay xyz the demo is shown in behindview
If i choose demo xyz at my demomanager the little box to click 3rdperson view or not is grey and i can t click on it. when i play demo xyz from there it s shown in behindview too. Sounds strange but it s like that. I also reinstalled demomanager. Same thing. O K Hope my English in understandable, but thx to all for answer. !
And >ION< : Now that you left the league - aren t there many evenings you would love it to have a match again more than anything else? If so - you could have a friendly hehe

Did u try deleting the udemo.ini ?

Ask Rampage, but I think a few of us have totally stopped playing ut.

and it was hard enuf getting a team together before that, but ask Rampage anyway, maybe a 4v4 or something

My demorec becomes stranger and stranger...
perhaps it s nothing new but I never saw something like that: I recorded a demo while playing LavafortII in an empty Lan-server (start new multiplayer game). If I looked it afterwards ( in behindview of course, caus can t change to 1stpersonview) I could change with my F5 key between different cameras view which were near objectives (Lavacave, Fuses, Energy generatorroom, spawnpoint and dunno some more). But one one of these camera views was really new for me. I saw the map from about 100 meters up in the sky but the strange thing was, that iz didn t look like i fly up and look down before spawning or like i think it s called ghostmod. No, a completely new optic - I could see through walls which are between me and all objected also some spaces, but always non-important places of the map were just black. While looking the camera zoomed that at the end i saw the whole map as if i were 2000 meters in the dark sky.

I did screenshots but i dunno how to show them here? If anybody could tell me how to show a screenie here i ll do.It looks unbelievable:
hm seems like i m the alwayspostwithoutgettinganend-man !

if you rec it..then its in 1st playerview right......
and if you do with demomanager you only got behindview.....
try to do 1st way thats its 1st playerview...then the ppl who see it gotta change it self to behindview...0/1 or 3rd playerview:P ;)

Hm Thx, but I get the feeling that nobody understands my problem although i posted a roman. My problem is :
ALL DEMOS I RECORD ARE IN BEHINDVIEW.
It doesn t depend on how I record them (via console or via demomanager).
It doesn t depend on how I play them ( via console or via demomanger).
ALL DEMOS ARE IN BEHINDVIEW AND I CAN T CHANGE TO 1STPERSONVIEW.
I tried everything out. In my opinion must the problem has something to do with recording - not with playing them. Because when I record a demo and look afterwards it is always behindview even if i play by typing in console or by demomanager-but at demomanager if i select this demo the box to click for 3rdpersonview or not is grey and i can t click it as if the demo is not recorded for 1stpersonview and that s why I think it must have to do with recording. And if i select demos from earlier times i can click the litlle box. And as I said it all came up as I used that demorec-bind (posted above). I m not a specialist but the bind deales with exec and perhaps that changes something?
Hm this is so strange and the next league-match where I use to demorec is coming soon
But anyways thx

well IMO it cant have anything to do with the bind itself..

there is no difference in any way u record it just how u play it.

if wanna make sure just demorec 32414312 and do demoplay 32414312

if that dont work

try renaming ur user.ini + unrealtournament.ini to user2.ini and unrealtournament2.ini

boot up ut and ut should make new ini files for ya. try playing em like that and see what happens

if that DOES work u can do either: play with these ini files or try to fix ur older ini files.. (delete the current ini files and rename the original ones back)

if u need help contact me on icq or sth .. look below for that icq thingy :)

btw exec means it just runs a .txt file which has a list of several other thingies..

doesnt affect demorecording..

try the above and if that dont help contact me..maybe i can see sth if u send me the demos / ini's

yes after all, it can only be your user.ini or ut.ini
because "demorec xyz" and "demoplay xyz" have to work

if you record demos in practice session though - or even in a multiplayer game where YOU are the server, then things like that with those many cameraspots can happen. many different things can happen then.

try connecting to a normal internetserver.
type demorec abc
play for 1minute
type stopdemo
disconnect and then type demoplay abc

if you can only watch THAT demo in behindview, then it have to be your inis.

or do you mean that all your demos are in 3rdperson -> freecam ?
if yes, then go back to that server/practice session thing i wrote above.

edit: if this all fails, send me one of yer demos and i will have a look at it. :)

Thx to all,
but all hints didn t help. If somebody wants to see the problem with his own eyes I can send him my user.ini and a demo (which I can only see in behindview) and also the strange screenie which shows LavafortII from the sky and you can see through walls all objectives. My msn : [email protected]
Thx

I get that when I record demos after I have started a multiplayer game. All demos are in 3rdperson view.
But when I start a practise session, play in public servers and in UTA matches my demos are always in first person view.

I get the feeling that you have only recorded demos after you have started a multiplayer game. That's why I repeated what hardcore said :)
Oh and btw the strange views you described must be the cameras at objectives and so on. I dunno if phear has added them, the map maker or if thats built in to UT AS.

If it's not multiplayer game then I would have made a new UT installation to see if it's the same with that UT or reinstalled the one you already have installed.
Remember to save everything you want to save. pic's, cache files, demos, ini's etc

U just uninstall demoplayer and delete the udemo.ini

if that dont help send a demo to some1, and i bet it will play normally (assuming u aint got a load of mods and shit that they dont have)

Thx for hint supermic!,
but it s still the same. I recorded a demo at jolt4 and afterwards i could only watch it in behindview. And I also recorded demos in the past in a multipayergame and could see them afterwards in 1stpersonview, and btw aren t all demos of other players i have seen for example the whole tutorials of maps on ai-clanside or the mi5-monkey-bootjumps on bridge which i also saw in 1stpersonview recorded in a multiplayergame?
And thx to ACE but reinstall demomanger and deleting udemo-ini didn t work too and I really want to avoid reinstalling UT caus i have about 2800 files and 2GB UT-stuff.
Could anybobdy tell me how to show a screenie here? YOu really won t believe what cam-view shows my strange demomanager - i would post the screenie where you see whole LavafortII from sky in 45 degrees and can see through walls - very strange.
OK thx,

okay i recieved your eMail

1) that screenie is "normal" like when you are in ghost mode and fly through the bottom or top border of a map.
then you can see the map like on the screenshot

2) well for the demo - this will be a BIT more complicated hehe
i don't have about 80% of the packages i need, to play that demo
so what you said about 2Gig UT-Stuff is certainly TRUE hehe :D
(what is in the demo are mainly skins i think)

my advice:
- make a backup of your unrealtournament.ini
- then edit your unrealtournament ini and find the line "ServerPackages=SoldierSkins"
- now delete everything below "ServerPackages=Botpack" until the end of the "serverpackages=..." lines

- so that it says
ServerPackages=SoldierSkins
ServerPackages=CommandoSkins
ServerPackages=FCommandoSkins
ServerPackages=SGirlSkins
ServerPackages=BossSkins
ServerPackages=Botpack

like that you can make sure that we don't need all these packages to view the demo (and maybe the problem itself is also fixed by that! - so much ut-stuff installed can't be good for your UT hehe) ((*))

now go and record a demo (best would be on an internet-game-server like barry or jolt)
and now send this demo to me (well... only if the prob is still there :D )

i will have a look at it then

((*)) (additional info) :

if you follow my instructions you delete the info in you ut.ini that says other PCs what packages(mods/mutators) you have installed
for now this is what we want but this could cause some problems:

1) if you (and you still can do that) add mutators to games, you host, and you let connect other ppl to your server, then they either won't be able to play or (like in the runez-mod) will simply miss the stuff that is added by the mutator
so be sure to re-add the serverpackages-lines of these mutators/mods/skins if you are going to host a game (e.g. on LAN) with these mutators used

2) some mutators write their own categories into your ut.ini (cshp does, and many many others do that too) if you remove these packages from your serverpackages lines that could become a problem if UT doesn't find the corresponding serverpackages-line for a category down below in your ut.ini. but normally this only appears when you delete e.g. the "runez.u" and leave "serverpackages=runez" in. then you maybe get a general protection fault. leaving these categories in, deleting the serverpackages-lines, and leaving the .u files in, will not be a problem i think. but don't forget it COULD.

so don't forget the to make that backup and if you have the time then delete these categories too. (for rocketarena it is "[RocketArena.RocketArenaGame]" for example).

now you have a clean UT.ini but you can still use the mutators/skins. why? because they are loaded anyway. the .int (e.g. "runez.int") are responsible for that. and if they are loaded the categories will also be added again :whatever: (one big shite that is you see? :D )

but for the demos the many packages won't be needed anymore (only if you add those mutators to the game, you record the demo in! do not do that! if you do so, and you have bad luck, we won't be able to play the demo and in addition won't be able to see which package is needed because that packages was not in you serverpackages-line - and THEN the demo is really fucked hehe)

So: with the clean ut.ini record a demo with no custom skins/mutators/etc.
i think we will be able to watch these demos then and i also think that the problem will be solved then.

so if i were you, would do the following (if you want to record a demo, we can watch):

2 possibilities:

1st possibilty: clean you UT from the custom packages the way, i described it (serverpackages-lines, categories, .u files and also .int files (.int files without the corresponding .u files... omg worst of all i think hehe) - make a backup of all that stuff or simply delete it )

now you have a clean ut.ini, and system folder. UT should work now.

+: you still can decide, which packages you keep and which you throw away (if we should watch such a demo, you should throw them all away :D exept the bonuspacks 1 and 4)

-: much work to do. will take long and it is likely that you miss some things (like int files or categories and then the problems, described above could appear)

2nd possibility:
- make a backup of you user settings (user.ini)
- completely reinstall UT with patch 436 and the bonuspacks 1 and 4 and all the stuff that is needed for the league

+: faster than 1st possibilty, low error/mistake-rate
-: you will lose your skins etc. (but well.... you can reinstall them - but think! the demo-prob could come back and again we won't be able to view the demo)

and now back to what i really wanted to say:

in short words:
- clean your ut.ini like i described
- try it again / send the demo to me/us

-------
hope you understand what i want to say with my many complicated-mixed-together-sentences.

edit: had some typos - sry :(

oh one more thing:
if you wanna send me your user.ini and ut.ini, i can have a look at them, edit them, to *hopefully* make UT work correctly again. and maybe i can also tell ya, which .u files and of course the correspoding .int files, you should delete (or at least move!)

i think this is the bloody longest posting i ever made in this forum.
now i need a drink :boozer:

I got questions about demos too.
Everytime I try to watch 1 clan m8s demos my hard drive starts to work for a very long time and it takes for ever b4 the demo starts. Then when it finally starts. It's going really slow. Sometimes my UT even crashes because it has been loading the demo for such a long time. Once it stoped showing the demo just as it was about to begin.
I doubt anybody knows what could be the cause of this but I thought i'd as anyway :)

When I watch another clan m8s demos I see ice skating statues and they say things like I got the flag etc instead or normal AS taunts. + when he gets killed, sometimes the screen goes red and I can't see anything. Think it's the screenflash or what ever that shows damage that stays there.

I have asked about the iceskating player b4 but didn't ever find the reason for it.
I got iceskating statues myself for a while, and found that it was the engine.u that was the cause of it. I had installed creatives 436 patch and think it was that, that changed it.
I found this out by installing UT 1 more time and comparing both Ut's because 1 worked fine and the other didn't :)

Anyway I told my m8 to do the same but he still got that problem. He had cd2 textures installed also b4 but he got rid of them. And still got the statue problems.
He even sees players ice skating on some servers :( So its not only in demos.
