It's that time of year again.

Need some laptop recommendations - if I don't buy this one then why not?!

Needs to have similar specs (preferably Windows 7, not 8) 64-bit, 8GB RAM, 2.5GHz CPU-ish. USB3.0 ports would be nice, not fussed about anything else really. Price £500 limit.

Any ideas? Cheers.

Memory RAM: 8 GB Processor Speed: At least 2.50 GHz Dedicated Graphic Card: Dedicated

I bought a budget Lenovo IdeaPad a year ago, and it works insanely well for its price.
Lenovo REALLY know what they are doing.

So I'd recommend this one for you, I think:

edit: kaka suggests one too, I see :)

ACER is SHIT, don't get one from Acer.

However, you should spend more and get one with SSD!

@ Max - I already have Win7 dics so it would be nice if it came with 7 already installed, but not essential.

@ Kaka - Looks great, thanks - screen size doesn't worry me, no SSD drive isn't too much trouble and it gets good reviews :thumb: Why didn't I see this, it's on the same site

@ seas - Kaka's looks a bit better (much faster, no serious price difference) but thanks for the pointers. I would like SSD ye but not essential and it seems like Lenovo is the way to go.

Pity they both come with Win8 but no big deal. Thanks again, I'll probably pick up Kaka's one since I have a dabs account :coolfip:

Hmm actually I think there might be some difference between the two.

They probably come in different versions. The one that I linked this one ,the specs show it has a i7 processor but it doesn't show anything about the graphic card. I assume it just has an integrated card.

The one that seas showed this one has a i5 but also "Nvidia GeForce GT 635M" in the description.

If you consider this laptop you probably have to choose between a better processor or video card :trout:

if you dont need 17" seriously consider something smaller, they are cheaper, thinner, longer battery life
and if you can really hold off wait for the new haswell cpus, much improved gpu

since your into music consider throwing osx86 on it :)

ssd are like 100$ buy whatever laptop then swap a ssd in, take the 2.5 and throw it into an 10$ enclosure for usb external drive...

Thx Pogo, I don't need an SSD in the laptop tbh, I won't use it for high-end stuff or memory-heavy games - got a PC for that.

Decided on this one, at the very upper limit of my price range.

Any reason why you are buying it from Dabs and not somewhere cheaper, seems silly to pay an extra 10% just to get it from Dabs

I have a dabs account and they do good deals so I just tend to buy from them, haven't looked at other places tbh. But you're right, I should look around :thumb:

 when I posted the link it was £480 something on save on laptops, now back up to 550 something.
You snooze you lose

Mym trying to screw me there - I'm too smart. I will go back to my original idea - paying over the odds without looking for alternatives. You lose this round, universe :trout:
