Rules and guidelines for the pug:

General behaviour in Pug channel/sever:

  • Do not abuse each other or admins when chatting in the pug channel. We can all take a joke, but don't go too far!

  • RACISM of any kind WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

  • No spamming the pug channel

  • Show some respect to the people you play with and act civilised, this is after all not a league match and you have the CHOICE not to play.
  • Keep flames to a minimum within the pug channel. If you wish to discuss a league match in great detail, please use public clan channels, the #utassault league channel, or do it in PM. This doesn't mean you cannot chat in the pug channel, but if it gets to the point that the PUG is affected by your discussion then you may be asked to take it elsewhere.

  • If you have a problem with the server, in terms of LAG or PL, then please report it to one of the admins. Sometimes a tracert may be useful to help determine if we can fix the problem - Mym is the person to send these to. Alternatively post on the PUG forums. HOWEVER - Do not constantly complain/whine about it either in the channel or in game, this will not help anyone.

Using the PUGBOT:

  • DO NOT ABUSE THE !RESET commmand. People who keep hitting !reset when they are not in the current pug round or feel it's funny to annoy others will recieve a ban for as long as the admins feel is necessary for that person to learn their lesson. This also applies to other commands that the bot accepts.

  • Make sure who you are is obvious from your nick. This allows captains to make an informed choice when picking teams.

  • If you are going to play a pug with less than 12 players, MAKE SURE EVERYONE AGREES. For example, No having a 4v4 when people have not had a chance to object to the change of player limit. Or no changing the player limit to 2 and signing instantly to start a 1v1 without any warning to fellow puggers.

  • If you are going to play a very lower player limit pug, for example, 1v1 or 2v2, please use a lower maplimit of 3 or 5 to avoid the pug lasting for a long period when more people may wish to be pugging but are unable to as 2 people have chosen to 1v1.

  • If the pug is reset, please give those who were originally signed a CHANCE to resign to the new letter.

Captain Mode:

  • Once the PUG has reached captain mode, DO NOT CHANGE NICK. DO NO LEAVE THE CHANNEL. This will cause a reset.

  • Captains are not only there to pick teams, they are also expected to give at least some form of tactics to their team, be it using teamspeak, or in game chat!

  • Take some initiative, if no one is captaining, take it upon yourself to do it!

  • Please try to pick fair teams during games - picking friends is obviously allowed, but please try to consider the game for all players, and keep teams balanced in terms of skill/teamplay.

  • Please take others into consideration when picking maps, for example, don't pick maps deliberately to upset others, for example - picking all the standard maps knowing it will annoy someone.
Addition to this rule [04/03/08] - only 2 'CUSTOM' maps. That means the new maps for testing - Gladiator, Tydium, Navarone etc PER PUG. Anymore ruins the pug before it starts. Testing is fine, but people should gradually come to enjoy the maps. People do play for competition sometimes and playing maps they dont know just pisses people off.

  • The teams picked by the captains should not be swapped about. If you wish to swap then please make sure both captains agree with it. Otherwise play with the team you are assigned. If you are desperate to play with a particular person then make it clear this is what you wish before they pick teams, or captain yourself!

Teamspeak:

  • Teamspeak is not mandatory, but it is encouraged. If you don't have a mic, why not join it anyway so you can at least listen to those who are using it.

  • Behave yourself in teamspeak! Do not go over the top with unneeded noise, eg playing music. Ok it can be funny before the game starts, but once the PUG is in full flow, please take others into consideration.

In Game:

  • People that sign to PUG are expected to SHOW and play. If for any reason you need to go, find a replacement on the PUG channel out of respect to your team and opponents, it is not enough simply to leave the password in the channel immediately leave, please make at least some effort to find someone! Those repeatedly leaving mid-PUG may be banned.

  • Please do not abuse binds during pug, nor spam for no good reason. Obviously hitting the LOL bind a few times can be amusing, but don't go over the top.

  • Do not use the "MUTE ALL" option if at all possible - it makes it impossible for captains/other to give out tactics. This is especially relevant if you are choosing not to use TS. If you want to do this - go on a public server as it is basically the same thing!

  • The League rules with regard to cheating and bug abuse still apply in the PUG. DO NOT DO IT! If you cheat in a PUG, it may well affect your chance to play in the league too!

  • Please do not use the COW, NALI or SKAARJ skins. They are not allowed in the league, and are considered lame and harder to hit.

  • Try not to be AFK for long periods of time. If someone has to go AFK for some reason, please try to even the teams up by someone sitting on the other team. If the person is AFK for a long period for no good reason or without trying to find a replacement, then you can report them to one of the admins.

Bans:

  • The length of a ban is up to the discretion of the admin staff. If you break the rules we will decide on a case to case basis. Generally speaking a 48hr ban will be the minimum for most rule breaking.

  • If you are banned from #utapug then you are banned from ALL PUG GAMES. No exceptions.

  • If you deliberately go around the ban and play, it is likely your ban time will be increased

  • Anyone giving their spot to a banned player from the PUG will recieve a ban themselves.

  • Players that are banned from the league and so cannot auth due to a suspended UTA player account, whether for cheating, mercing etc will not be allowed to play in PUG games. They may join the IRC channel and spectate games but the Auth system will not allow them to join the server. Players turning off auth to allow these people to play will be subject to punishment.

NOTE: The only time allowmercs should be used is if there is a new player who doesnt yet have a UTA account.

To summarise:

Respect each other and use your common sense. If everyone can do this, we will not have any problems! :)

Due to recent events I'm making a small post.

1. The rules may have loop holes, people trying to prevent bans based on the fact a rule isn't written will not have any luck. Admin decision is final.

2. If you want ADMINS to do something about people messing up a pug game, then you should provide a demo, screenshot, multiple people complaining and instantly after a game PM an admin (even if that admin is not there) that way action can be taken.

I won't accept listening to people saying, well player x did that 2 days ago but nothing happened and i'm being targeted because noone likes me.

If you want action taken unless its given after the offence and on the same day then that player will get away with it.

3. At the same time if an admin is playing a game and doesn't take action and refuses to after being told in game then I would like to hear about it also.

There is now a Zero Tolerance Approach to administration, that is all, happy pugging :)

1. This issue is pissing me off these last few weeks so I'm going to make it CLEAR for you all. If someone leaves a PUG before a PUG even starts that person will be banned.

2. INCOMING WALL OF TEXT IF A PLAYER OF AVERAGE SKILL LEAVES AND ASKS FOR SUB ON UTAPUG CHANNEL, IF THE PERSON REPLACING IS OF A SKILL LEVEL FAR ABOVE WHICH WILL OBVIOUSLY RUIN THE PUG THAT PERSON WILL BE BANNED - IF YOU WISH TO PLAY ASK THE OPPOSING TEAM IF THEY MIND YOU SUBBING. IT IS EASIER TO DROP A PLAYER TO EVEN RATHER THAN MAKE MILLION DOLLAR TRANSFER SUBS AND COMPLETELY MESSING UP A PUG - From now on anyone who wants to sub, join server and ask oppositions approval FIRST to avoid futher complaining.

Further clarification on map bugs:

Pugs are meant to be fun! So let's not abuse "lame" bugs to gain an advantage. These include water bugs, wall bugs, etc.

I don't mean - you cannot water sniper. But there are ways to make sure you appear unhittable when in water, so please do not abuse these bugs!

Another example would be using a wall bug which allows you to hang in mid air and sit there sniping.

Just to help make it clear:

The language of UTA is English. This includes the PUG channel.
Kindly do not have conversations in languages other than English in the PUG channel.

If, for example, some Dutch want to have a conversation in Dutch then please create and join your own channel.
