DVD Flick

DVD Flick is a simple but at the same time powerful DVD Authoring tool. It can take several video files stored on your computer and turn them into a DVD that will play back on your DVD player, Media Center or Home Cinema Set.

DVD Flick is Open Source, meaning that anyone can download and view or modify the program's source code. It also means that it is absolutely free of charge. Several external programs are used by DVD Flick to do the dirty work like encoding and combining of video material. All of these programs are free, some are Open Source too.

Supported file container formats are, amongst others, AVI, MPG, MOV, WMV, ASF, FLV, Matroska and MP4. Supported codecs are amongst others, MPEG-1\2\4 (XVid, DivX, etc.), Windows Media Audio\Video. MP3, OGG Vorbis, H264, and On2 VP5\6. For a full list of supported container, audio and video formats

it's a nice tool to clean / browse and modify your registry.
This tool allows you to search, find and delete registry entries of installed programs more easily.
This tool has even a tweaking function.

Nowadays pretty much all HDs have "SMART", a piece of technology to monitor a HD.
That free program will keep an eye on your smart-enabled HDs and predict on it's performance when it will possibly break down.
Assuming it's rather accurate it's a nice early warning system to predict HD-failure and backup precious data before anything is lost.

Notebook Hardware Control
This tool is pretty handy for Notebooks with older CPUs (e.g. Pentium4M, etc).
It allows to adjust the multiplicator and voltage according to the cpu-usage.
Newer CPUs (like the Core2Duos) do that automatically without any required software (C1E and EIST).

Ontop of that it also showes CPU and HDD-temperature, battery-status in Systray and optional in the taskbar.
That tool make my P4M running at 600MHz with just 0.78V (default is 1.04V) when the CPU-usage is below 30%.
If the usage gets over 50% it autmatically raises the CPU-clock to 1 GHz @ 1V. :D
1.3GHz at 70% and above 90% the CPU is running in fullspeed @ 1.212V (default 1.35V).

Compared to my old static tool, this truly helps to save energy.

Here's my little list of progs I know and trust:

Virtual Dub - for all video editing (avi, mpg)

Irfanview - for viewing all images

Orbit - for grabbing all sorts of streaming videos from the internet, whether the links are hidden or buried or whatever

Process Explorer - for getting into places in XP which task manager can't

Speed up vista by disabling useless shit you never use anyway:

the commentary is shit but it shows nicely where to go.
