Was just after some help on how to connect etc...is there a tutorial on how to set up irc so you can connect to the right server/channels etc..... its been a lonnnnnggg time since i used this software....and i wasnt the best at it then!!!

you can... go to the options folder (Map+Hammer)... open the 'connect' tab and click the 'options' tab there...
there you can click 'Perform'

put your stuff there... and don't forget to click 'enable on connect' on top

for example this is what i have:

/nick SauSje
/msg nickserv identify *PASSWORD*
/cs unban #tnt.priv
/j #tnt.priv
/j #utapug
/j #holland
