I just don't get this. Can someone explain to me why the british press keeps attacking the germans with every possibility they get?
Now as a German has been voted as the new pope, most british papers are shouting with headlines like "From Hitler youth to Papa Ratzi", etc. They don't see that everyone back in the Nazi regime had to join the Hitler youth.
It's not the first time I've seen that, especially in the british media. It really disturbs me that they often equate every German with a Nazi.
Show me one German nowadays who is in charge of what happened over 60 years ago. Germany has paid for its faults. I personally think its a great pity people can't get over it

What you have to remember is... it's not British people. It's *english* people.. and even then, it's not all English, it's not even a *amjority* of English people. It's only a part of the English population - but man do those fuckers buy newspapers.

Beyond a bit of football rivalry I doubt if anyone in the UK feels bady about the Germans now - and frankly, I don't count the normal German people as any more responsible for the terrible acts of genocide any more than I count the British people responsible for attrocities such as Dresden.

To be fair, in this case, they are not really comparing Ratzinger/Benedict to a NAzi because he's German (although that helps the brain dead readers of "the Sun" to get the point) but because this bilespewing old demon *IS* a Nazi, of the very worst kind!

Basically, I agree with you. I absolutley *despise* pathetic jingoism in the UK, and wish we had a press that cared more about the fact that our prime minister lied his way into an illegal war in Iraq, and less about how Posh and Becks decorate their gazebo... But take comfort from the fact that these papers do not represent the ordinary public at large.

I find reading the Sun or the Star or other such crap so intensley painfull, the crap that they spout is an insult to our country, the Sun must be one of Britains most sued businesses. If I want porn, I go get real porn. If I want news, I go get a real newspaper. Not entirely on topic, but as a point of interest, i did a piece of maths coursework which compared word lengths, sentance lengthes etc (statistics sections) and i compared the Telegraph and the Sun, i repeated this over 4 stories and came up with 50 pages of utter shite and 150 pages of wrongly printed shite.... anyway, overall, the sun was actually marginally longer words and sentances, ok only talking 0.0?

Anyone who reads 'The Sun' really should just make a noose and hang themselfs. I have to say most the of the people that would have the oppinion of German = Nazi are of the townie breed (chavs to the layman). A rule of thumb is simply don't belive anything thats in a red top news paper. The funny thing is though 'The Sun' has a market share of 35% and is the top selling newspaper by over 1milllion

good point about the spelling... I usually just say nazi, unless I am describing someone who I think holds Nazi views (see, did it again without thinking )

Seriously, Ratzinger was regarded as John Paul's "enforcer".

He helped cover up child sex abuse involving priests, and played a key role in preventing the US Bishops from putting measures in place to make sure priests who rape children are turned over to the police... Ratzinger would rather that such cases were covered up, and the priests moved around so they can keep on carrying out the abuse.

There's paperwork on the various sex-abuse survivor's webistes showing that Ratzinger's office, and ratzinger personally had knowledge of sex abuse cases as far back as 1974, and helped cover them up.

So basically, he might not be a nazi in the political sense, but he's certainly of that mindset.
