I've had a problem using 'AltFire' for a while. It used work fine :hangover:

How many keys can be pressed/used/activated at the same time on your keyboard?
Is there a limit within UT or is it Windows who doesn't allow you to?

I'm the oldfashion type using the arrow keys for directions and Mouse1 as Primary Fire, Mouse2 as Jump etc.

When I use my AltFire (Ins on Numpad) I run in a straight line and can not turn in any directions :(
Can anyone help me with this very annoying problem?

Here's the first part of my user:

Yeyeye...:hangover:

I told u was oldfasioned :D

Mi suggested it actually was my keyboard who didn't allow more than 2 key signals at a time.
Could be it.

all of your keys on your keyboard have a connector to the chip giving information to it whether a key is pressed or not.
to save material/space a lot of keys use the same connector afaik so when you press to keys which lie on the same connector, the chip cant decide whats being pressed.

Strange thing is that it used to work .. with the same keyboard? did you patch Windows? This could also be a reason, but should normally not worsen anything.

Hi Sobo btw. :)

I did actually change keyboard a couple of times.
And if I remember the troubles started when I bought a new one instead of the old one I've had since my first PC.
I had a cordless for a while but didn't have any troubles with that one. - A cordless doesn't have any wires and must work differently?

I'm more and more convinced it is the keyboard that is the problem. Especially when I have not changed anything in my user for years (LOL).

I guess I have to look for a better keyboard.

It's a bind that lowers your mouse speed when pressed and back to normal when released.
Very handy if you want to launch more precisely. Also good when you need to snipe in some occasions.

wireless or not doesnt matter.
The "chip" i was referring to stands for a chip inside the keyboard, the connectors are on a platine below your keys.

And the "chip" communicates with your computer via cable or without

Ah, now I get it. It's simply my keyboard's technical design that is preventing me from using more than 2 keys at the same time because it can't handle more signals.
In other words I have to get a keyboard that has more (and seperate) running connectors + a chip that can handle more signals.
Am I right?

:nod:, if there are any.
I bet the more eypensive one should be able to handle that.

I had the same problem when i played FIFA Soccer with my keyboard.

lmfao @ playing fifa on a pc (and even more so with a keyboard)

but tbh i didnt expect anything else from u bart

LeftMouse=Fire
RightMouse=Jump

I wonder why

something is missiong :

midleMouse=Shoot Flak

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

i got the same prob with my cheap keyboard , everytime i press 3 keys i got a *bip* and sometimes it gets stuk in a random direction till i press the key again :o

what an awful config

i also get beeps if i hold too many keys down.. and it only happens with certain combinations

for instance if i try and crouch (hold down e) and then strafe left/right (a and d) it sometimes beeps - normally when ive tried to move forward at the same time as well.. (w).. so i figure it happens when i press 3 or more keys at once.. this didnt happen on my old keyboard tbh

also about the weird config - ive seen CS players who have their fire keys on the keyboard - the premise for this is that it keeps the mouse aim steadier than if you are clicking to fire.. never tried it myself.. seems too unnatural :S

Ye, but isn't it nice we're all different :D

I remember playing PlanetSide for a while. I had to play with 'normal' keybinds. Otherwise I couldn't use all the functions within the game. Oh, so very frustrating...very frustrating. :hangover:

Maybe I could just place my 'AltFire' on my MiddleMouse instead...hm!

(I can still shot flak anyway) :rofl:

[edit]

Oh, btw: Any suggestions for a decent keyboard?
