LoL is the noobs moba but it's far easier to play so it draws the bigger crowd.
no matter how hard you try to cater for noobs dota has a more complex and unforgiving gameplay so it takes A LOT of incentive to start playing it and a lot of determination to keep playing and become decent at it. (you lose gold when you die in dota not in LoL also the whole creep deny thing is a big element of gameplay not present in LoL)
