have you considered a vps? paying for colo is such a waste
windoze if need be for the pugbot, else openvz are much cheaper

Ive always been advised against vps for game hosting, you are also adding another unknown element, whos using resources, over allocated etc

Ive got a physical machine so the cost to me is purely putting it somewhere, I can run whatever I want within limit of the resources on the machine which are much higher than weve had at UTA for most of our servers and I know if theres an issue I can sort it.
The biggest problem I have is that its a last generation machine so not low power, a big factor with all hosting now is power costs.

If im not hosting my machine then I've got no incentive to keep it, its not worth much second hand and tbh no real incentive to run a server anymore either.

i agree you gotta be careful when selecting the vps host, but unless you your doing more than host a few pugs and pugbot.exe imo 100$/month is insane

can pugbot.exe be run in wine? ive only the old naat version and you arent allowed to share pugbot to test :rolleyes:

Id be more interested to see UT servers that are running on a vps host. I would personally be wary of running anything on a virtual platform that relies on timing as much as a FPS game server does.

The servers I run will easily use 1GB between them, so you are looking at around £20-30 a month for that by your prices, so maybe half the price of what Ive been quoted for colo.

Keep in mind I have no trouble paying £40 for colo somewhere, but the further out of London I go the worse the routing but the cheaper it is, no idea when it comes to vps whether this is going to be the same, I would assume so. Will havea look to see what vps based in Telehouse is around.

And yeah, VPS is a bad fuckin idea, how can you suggest that, nogo, with all the crying that yaku has put us through?

Only had a very quick scan, but is that bot not just a way of setting up a match but without really doing anything to the server?
For AS we have the ability to set up the server for multiple maps and keep a record of the score, not sure they have that function.

Yeah, would be more freestyle, 10sec mapvote, no special password for each pug but only signed players allowed to play, and a little UT script to keep track of score.
Probably wouldn't work for AS community, throwing it out there anyway, for whatever it's worth!

edit:
An advantage would be easy iAS and ProAS pugs, along with 1v1 DM, 2v2 sniperCTF and whatever

Oh and do again consider moving IRC to Quakenet and promote in other active chans.
But invite only, I think. Probably messy otherwise, I could help some with all that.

An instaAS chan over there would be pretty nice, imho, insta would make it easier for people to transition to AS.
But not sure why we or I feel the need to discuss this in -2013- xD

Wheels are now in motion for a move, server will be going to the same network as the 109.169.20.2 IP above.

Time frame: server is currently seeing out its notice period during which I'll organise the new location. IP etc will be supplied in advance of the move so things can hopefully be updated with the minimum of downtime probably 3-4 days or so in which time Dog server will temporarily host the bot and pug server (if thats OK with Timo

)

I know a few people have pm'd me with the offer of money and I said not until I have organised the move, well now the move is organised so feel free to get in contact again. Ideally I'm looking to cover the next 6 months.

Hopefully this will improve things for a lot of people, although not the Portuguese routing by the looks of it

don't really worry about my routing, it's better to that location than the actual one (less 11 hops)
it may be because of my isp, it is kinda crap but I don't have any other company offering the same at same price $:\$
you may ask cyborg about the routing for that location as his ISP is better than mine.

Change of plan! Server is still being moved and time frame remains the same however it is going to a different location

Probably not quite as good as where it was going to move to but not far off however its come up at a very good price, too good to say not to.
The few people that have tracert it for me seem to have it as a big improvement over the current location, so hopefully will benefit others

Still looking for a few more donations to cover the costs, although dont need as much anymore

Server move date is now confirmed for evening Monday 18th until Tuesday 19th evening.

IP details should be given within the next couple of days, www.utapug.net will move across on the Monday and hopefully will be correct by Tuesday.

Thanks for those that have given money towards the server, I'm still about £25 short to cover the period I wanted.
