i've been using McAfee for the past 4-5 years and my subscription is almost over(yeah i had multi years deal), should i renew it or should i go with a free antivirus like AVG ?

thx in advance :D

I'm using nod32 but i guess avira is the best one. However sometimes it has false alarm messages.

Microsoft essentials, is not that bad friendly interface and low on resources, but it's slow in removing malware and scanning.

Avast is quite good too although it sometimes misses threats, and is confusing at first

a-squared. Super safe but as results. Lot's of false alarms

AVG not that good anymore imo. to demanding and not that good protection.

Mcafee. Crap ;)

AVG is shit, Norton is shit, Avira is annoying, McAfee can be a pain in the bum, Kaspersky is ok but can be a little overbearing

I prefer Eset Nod as it is lightweight, doesn't interfere much and picks up most stuff.

I've had free AVG for years coupled with free zone alarm firewall ....never had a virus or trojan

That does depend what kind of websites you visit and downloads you do

Thats like saying I drive at twice the speed limit and ive never had a crash..

i had many years AVG cause it was much smaller than avira and not annoying... avira sometimes dont update and also has advertisment...

Anyway the new AVG isn't that small anymore and also brings a lot of additional shit witch is useless...

I warn to use Kaspersky! It cracked up my system and i was unable to refresh the ut-server-list... wtf?!?

NOD32 as always needs a lot of ressources... i would not use that cause i want my system to have power... and not lagging cause of AV

Avast is really usefull and freeware... depending on the level of virus detection it really works good and very little false alarms...

the best for me is f-prot, very small but allways up-to-date and the detection is very good, only some little false alarms at heuristic scanning for keygens and cracks... but its only 22days free test...

Just use your brain and don't download all shit is enuff if you have a firewall/router....

I wouldn't say Macafee is crap but again: too big and not bettter than any freeware products...

I used to have AVG but it's a nightmare to uninstall and it's a bit heavy-handed. I've never had problems with Avast! and I find it very good at picking up stuff others had missed.

I haven't used an anti virus program in years and never got a virus.

i have intalled Avast and i'm happy with it :D

i also have a router but shud i install ad aware, spybot or any other software ?

Not much need, Avast! is excellent at the spyware stuff and for ads (assuming you're using Firefox) you can just go with NoScript and AdBlock Plus addons.
