noob problem I need some help with plz folks :fluffle:

I had to reinstall Java for some reason through Firefox and once it had installed it said 'firefox must be restarted'....so I shut it down and it restarted asking which user (or profile?) to use. When I chose 'default' it said it couldnt start because it was already in use.

So, I created a new user/profile to start it but this new profile obviously doesnt have all my old favs/pws etc and I cant find out how to change back to my old one

helllllp, really pissing me off that its not got a big shiny button that says 'Change Profile Here'

i get that message too and i cant restart firefox no matter what so i've got to reboot or use IE and reboot later. I dunno whats cause it .. maybe a bug in that firefox release? i know i dl'd a new one recently.

no fs, firefox didn't shutdown completely... just Ctrl +Alt + Del... Task Manager... Processes... firefox.exe shut down... then try again...
got the same prob (with startup) a few days ago....

i did a new profile and now all my settings and favourits is gone, and dunno how to change back to the old profile

Exactly the same problem for me!

OK the way I have gone about it - Dont bother creating a new profile, close it all down and uninstall, then do a fresh install - saves all your favourites etc

I wish it didnt do it though, its a damn pain in the arse - Happens to me when i play some video clips/audio clips that are posted in chit chat forum.

check the Task Bar for firefox.exe under processes...

had this problem alot as well, and this always helped me out
hope they fix this bug soon, coz its pretty annoying

thx for the replies...unfortunately I already created a new profile when it said it couldn't restart with the default profile so the task manager > processes tip wont work in this case

Need to know whether its possible to get back to an older profile rather than what to do when it occurs in the future

had it today too for the first time.
checked tasks and there were three drwatsons (win2k, error report service or something like that. always comes up when a program crashes) and one ffx.exe left. anyway so i shut them down and then ffx worked again.

but i dunno why that happened as ffx didnt crash before. i ended it normally.


@ lost profile:
okay tbh i don't know exactly where to find the profile (and if it is deleted ... )
but maybe this helps http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#locate to locate the folder and maybe there is something left there.

Couldnt find a way to just switch back without uninstalling but at least those tools allowed me to backup and restore my original profile after reinstalling.
