monitor switches to power saving mode?

Incidentally, I was told that opening monitors was very dangerous as some retain current for a few hours after being switched off - not sure if its just bollocks or not but best to check beforehand :saw:

This is true, especially the old cathode televisions hold currents for hours after being plugged out, dno about the newer monitors though.
 
Well I stripped the boards out and couldnt find any obviously burned out caps etc.
Guess ill have to try find someone that can run some dagnostics.
